David Bowie’s estate launches a new TikTok account with his iconic hits and music videos to celebrate the late rocker’s 74th birthday

David Bowie‘s estate has launched an account on TikTok on what would have been his 74th birthday, it was revealed on Friday.

The social media platform announced that the late music icon, who died aged 69 in 2016, would be celebrated with a new account that shares his back catalogue.

It was also revealed that Bowie’s hits would be available to the TikTok community, with the rocker’s dedicated page celebrating his life with iconic videos from over five decades in the industry.

Working in partnership with Warner Music Group, Sony Music and The David Bowie estate, TikTok has now added tracks like Heroes, Space Oddity, Let’s Dance, Fame, Rebel Rebel, Life on Mars?, and Ashes To Ashes to its sounds page.

On Sunday January 10, TikTok will also launch TheStarman challenge to mark five years since Bowie’s tragic death following his 18-month battle with liver cancer.

The hashtag challenges users to celebrate Bowie’s life and work by recreating his iconic looks over the years to the track Starman, the lead single from his 1972 album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders.

Paul Hourican, Head of UK Music Operations at TikTok said: ‘We are truly honoured to welcome David Bowie and his music to TikTok. 

‘He remains one of the most influential and acclaimed artists of all time and his music has defined multiple generations and cultural moments. 

‘We know the excitement our community will find discovering his music and creating using the indisputable Bowie sound.’ 

Bowie died two days after the release of his twenty-fifth studio album, Blackstar, which coincided with his 69th birthday.

He was married to supermodel Iman from 1992 until his death with the couple sharing daughter Alexandria, 20. He was also father to son Duncan, 49, who he shared with ex-wife Angie.

On Tuesday, Iman insisted she’ll never remarry following her late husband’s death, and she declared the singer was her ‘true love’.

In February’s issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the supermodel, 65, said: ‘David is in our hearts and minds on a daily basis, for all of us. You know, this was my true love. My daughter once asked me if I would ever marry again and I said, “never”.’
