After moving to the US in the early 2000s they adopted two children – son Oscar, now 20, and daughter Ava, now 15.

Deborra-Lee has long been a critic of Australia’s ‘anti-adoption culture’, telling The Daily Telegraph last year that she and Hugh had chosen to adopt their children in the United States because it was ‘easier’.

She explained she was ‘horrified’ and ‘appalled’ by Australian bureaucracy, and went through the U.S. system instead after moving stateside.
