The Chase’s Anne Hegerty sends This Morning into chaos as her phone goes off live on-air (and she ignores it!)

The Chase’s Anne Hegerty left This Morning in chaos when her phone went off live on-air during her appearance on Thursday.

The Governess star, 62, made an appearance alongside Mark Labbett and Shaun Wallace to talk about their new show The Chaser’s Road Trip: Trains, Brains And Automobiles.

Discussing how they travelled through America in an RV, Anne began: ‘I hadn’t really taken on board the phrase RV, I thought in terms of a mini bus or something like that.

‘And I went into the car park and looked at it and I said no I can’t do that.’

As she continued to talk, Anne’s home phone started to go off but she decided to ignore the telephone and just keep talking to co-presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

After the phone stopped ringing, Phil asked: ‘Who’s phone is that?’, and Anne then said it had ‘just gone to voicemail, sorry.’

Despite the interruption, Anne, Mark and Shaun were happy to keep talking about their show, where they travel across the world to embark on an intellectual journey and question if humans are as intelligent as then believe themselves to be.

They used an RV to get around, and Shaun said filming was ‘exhilarating’  as he joked: ‘Mark’s driving was a bit suspect at times, but that was because he was driving an RV on roads he wasn’t familiar with.’

Mark then quipped: ‘They said you’re driving it and only gave me a few minutes in a parking lot and said go for it!’

They pit their wits against Kanzi, a Bonobo ape who is able to communicate with humans by using a series of pictures and symbols on a Lexigram.

Mark said of the challenge: ‘Kanzi is like the Einstein of the primate world, he’s been doing pictograms all his life and we had thirty minutes to learn all of these images which was quite hard.

‘I think he got 30 out of 30, and I think we got 16 or 17, each of us.’

Anne appeared to believe the challenge wasn’t fair given the monkey’s familiarity with the task, as she added: ‘Kanzi has been learning these symbols for years and years and we only had half an hour.’
