Bridgerton’s Adjoa Andoh tips co-star Regé-Jean Page as the next James Bond

Adjoa Andoh has tipped her ‘beautiful’ co-star Regé-Jean Page to be the next James Bond amid swirling speculation that he will be next to undertake the iconic role.

The Bridgerton star, who plays Lady Danbury, weighed in on the Bond rumours during an appearance on Good Morning Britain on Thursday.

Regé-Jean, 31, recently dodged questions over whether he had been approached to play the British spy, doing little to quash speculation he could replace Daniel Craig.

‘He’d be marvellous!’ Adjoa Andoh has tipped her ‘beautiful’ co-star Regé-Jean Page to be the next James Bond amid swirling speculation that he will be next to undertake the iconic role

Discussing the speculation, Adjoa said: ‘I think the thing with Rege is, he is beautiful – don’t tell him I said that – he is very smart, he is a fantastically funny sharp actor so he could take on any role you give him really.

‘Annoyingly, he could. So yes he would be a marvellous James Bond if they ever decided to go that way, no doubt at all.’

Adjoa also teased snippets from the hotly-anticipated second series of the period drama, which is slated to begin filming in the spring.

She said: ‘I can’t give anything away, it is more than my life is worth. All I can say is we are definitely coming back, we are getting all geared up at the moment…

‘There are going to be great new love stories going on, because there are a lot of Bridgerton children to get married…

‘Hopefully you will see more of Lady Danbury being acerbic and plotting and encouraging those young girls… and hanging out with the Queen a bit more and all of that. There is lots to come.’

The first series, which hit the headlines for it racy scenes, was filmed before the coronavirus pandemic but Adjoa admitted she thinks producers will find ‘away around’ social distancing.

Discussing the speculation, Adjoa said: 'I think the thing with Rege is, he is beautiful - don't tell him I said that - he is very smart, he is a fantastically funny sharp actor so he could take on any role you give him really (pictured as Lady Danbury in Bridgerton)

She said: ‘Everybody is finding ways around this stuff, whether it is bubbling or constant testing…I don’t think we could [have a socially distanced Bridgerton] so we will be finding all the workarounds that people are doing at the moment.’

Asked if she knew the show would be such a hit from the outset, she said: ‘When I was sent Lady Danbury to read, she just jumped off the page.

‘She is super fun to play, she is fiery, she is smart, she is very strategic, she can spot someone who is talking rubbish straight away and she will call them out on it but she also can see the ones who are really vulnerable and she will scoop them up… she just has this huge appetite for life and she is loving it.’

She also added that she believes the pandemic helped the show take off, saying: ‘When we are having such a bleak and difficult time in so many differently difficult ways, here was something that just said, ‘Turn your Covid radar off for five minutes and just get lost in this other world.’

Speaking on the Graham Norton Show last week, the Bridgerton hunk attempted to avoid talk of the ‘B-word’ during his interview.

He told the show’s host: ‘Bridgerton is the only ‘B’ word I am allowed to say – I am not going to talk about the other ‘B’ words!’ the actor said on the show.’

The topic also came up during an appearance on Jimmy Fallon, where he again failed to deny that he had been approached by Bond bosses.

Regé-Jean said: ‘If you’re a brit and you do something of any regard that people renown well, people are going to start saying the ‘B word’.

She said: 'I can't give anything away, it is more than my life is worth. All I can say is we are definitely coming back, we are getting all geared up at the moment…'

He added: ‘I’m very glad to have the badge, I’m very glad to be in the company of such people whop have the badge, but it’s just a badge.’

Several big names have been tipped for the role since the announcement that Daniel Craig will be stepping down.

Stars including Idris Elba, Outlander’s Sam Heughan, James Norton and Tom Hardy have all been suggested as contenders for the part.

But, in January, Ladbrokes revealed that they had slashed the odds on Regé-Jean playing Bond next, as it went from 40/1 to just 16/1 in betting now.

According to the gambling company, Regé-Jean is now seen as more likely to take the part than Jamie Bell and Chris Hemsworth, while he is neck-and-neck with Michael Fassbender.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: ‘Rege-Jean Page has shot up the betting and is now firmly considered a frontrunner in the race to replace Daniel Craig as 007.’

Meanwhile, the latest Bond film was scheduled to be released in 2020 but was delayed due to the pandemic.

No Time To Die, is the 25th film in the franchise, and will feature Craig’s last performance as the 007 agent.

A new release for the movie was shared on the film’s official Twitter account, revealing the latest expected date is October 8, 2021
