As the bin is lined up with the rear of the truck one of the workers walks away from the bin.

His colleague continues his work and starts operating the hydraulic rams to lift the bin into the truck’s compactor.

As the bin is emptied, a large rat appears causing the workers to run in fear.

One of the man shouts the warning ‘watch! watch!’

The cameraman is heard warning his colleague, shouting: ‘Watch it’s going for you!’

Footage of the scene was shared by Facebook union page GMB Branch 40 who captioned their video: ‘Rats have become a common occurrence in cleansing more so over the last years.

‘But now and then they can give you a laugh, listen to the GMB cleansing workers reaction is priceless.

‘Brilliant keep up the good work.’

Alongside the video, the Union page posted a video from GMB Convenor Chris Mitchell who said: ‘There has been a massive increase in rats within the service since the pandemic started last March.

‘We have been campaigning to get more resources into cleansing to stop this rat infestation.

‘But there is humour attached to this sometimes, so we are going to show a video of our two workers when they come across a rat.

‘Listen to their reaction, it is absolutely priceless. Fair play to the guys who keep up the good work.’
