Comic Relief 2021: Keira Knightley, Joan Collins star in hilarious spoof parody of 2020

It was a star-studded night on Friday’s Comic Relief 2021 as the likes of Joan Collins, Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan joined forces to star in a hilarious spoof parody of 2020.

The famous faces appeared in a mock trailer for 2020: The Movie, a blockbuster film parody based on the real life coronavirus pandemic that devastated last year.

The trailer saw the celebrities star as everyday heroes, with Keira portraying ‘The Woman Who Can’t Take It Anymore!’ while Carey portrayed a stay-at-home mum who was at the end of her tether after being in lockdown for months with her children.

Meanwhile, looking as glamorous as ever, Joan made a special appearance as the first woman to be vaccinated. 

The movie trailer started with a booming voiceover which said: ‘With the world locked up, the heroes stepped up.’ 

The clip saw the leading ladies joined by a host of other big names including Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill as NHS doctors rushing to catch the latest episode of the Great British Bake Off.

While Anna Friel had a nightmare as the first woman to cut her own hair in lockdown – with disastrous results. 

Keen to portray the year like no other, Russell Brand dressed up as fitness coach Joe Wicks, who was highly praised through the pandemic for his daily P.E With Joe workouts and fundraising efforts. 

Elsewhere, KSI appeared as Bill Gates, Matt Lucas played Gary Barlow alongside the real Gary Barlow, EastEnders’ Shaun Williamson aka Barry played the inventor of Zoom, while Michael Sheen was Covid-19.

Making up the line-up, Al Murray also made a cameo as the pub landlord, joking about the changing rules on when Brits can get into their local boozer for a pint, while Ainsley Harriott starred as ‘superhero’ Marcus Rashford.

With a host of big names coming together in the name of charity, viewers tuning in at home were quick to take to Twitter to give their opinion on the spoof.

The jam-packed evening saw a hilarious sketch by Dawn French’s Vicar of Dibley doing her best Lizzo impression, larking around on a video call to hit tune Juice. 

While Daniel Craig joined Catherine Tate’s Nan for a very special James Bond skit. 

The laughs kept on coming during the evening with the Top Gear hosts being grilled by children for one funny sketch.

Later in the night, Normal People star’s Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones also showed their support for Comic Relief as they appeared in a hilarious film alongside Fleabag’s Hot Priest, Andrew Scott.

The evening was also filled with some music treats, with the cast of West End musical Back To The Future giving a special performance jam-packed with some timely Covid jokes, while Justin Bieber also gave a special performance.

And Harry Styles’ video to Treat People With Kindness was also shown alongside a series of clips from the nation boogying along to the feel-good tune.
