The major change coming to the Logie Awards this year: TV’s night of nights will look very different after the 2020 ceremony was cancelled
The 2021 TV Week Logie Awards will take place later than usual this year, on Sunday, November 28, at The Star Gold Coast.
But a delayed ceremony isn’t the only change, as there will be another major difference compared to previous iterations of TV’s night of nights.
The eligibility for shows has been extended to two years, with TV Tonight reporting nominations will cover programming from April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2021.

Last year’s ceremony was cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Meanwhile, the fact this year’s ceremony will be broadcast in November has ruffled a few feathers among industry bigwigs.
With some TV networks reportedly furious with the timing of the ceremony, which is normally held in May or June.
According to The Australian, some executives are unhappy because the event will be held on the first day of the non-ratings period when talent will be unavailable to attend as shows will either be on hiatus or filming.

One network executive said: ‘We love the Logies, but we simply can’t do it at that time of year. There needs to be some compromise here. That’s all we’re asking for. But it seems to be going ahead on that day regardless.’
Channel Seven shows Big Brother and Australian Idol will likely be in production in November.
Channel 10’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, The Amazing Race Australia and MasterChef could also be filming at this time.
Meanwhile, soap opera Home and Away will be on hiatus and Sunrise anchors David Koch and Natalie Barr will be on holiday.

The much-anticipated ceremony will be televised on Channel 9 and 9Now.
‘TV WEEK is thrilled to have landed on a date we know we can deliver a spectacular show on,’ TV WEEK editor Amber Giles said in a statement.
‘After spending way too much time on the couch in stretchy pants over the past 12 months, it’s important to us and our partners that we come together at a time when we can all frock up and be in the same room.

Last year ARE Media group publisher Fiona Connolly regretfully announced the cancellation of the 2020 ceremony, originally scheduled for June.
