Kate Garraway reveals her children are ‘as good as they can be’ amid husband Derek’s Covid battle

Kate Garraway has revealed her two children are ‘as good as can be’ while their father Derek Draper remains hospitalised with COVID-19.

The presenter, 53, offered an update on her daughter Darcey, 15, and son William’s, 11, wellbeing during Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain, after being praised for her moving ITV documentary.

It comes after Kate marked her ‘hard’ second Easter without Derek at home as he reached his 13th month in hospital after battling coronavirus, but told fans she’s grateful he’s ‘still here’ after a lengthy battle with the disease.

During an interview to promote the new series of his Running Wild show, Bear revealed he’d just watched Kate’s moving programme, Finding Derek, which offered a glimpse into her life while Derek remained hospitalised.

As Bear asked about how the family was doing amid Derek’s Covid battle she said: ‘All good, as good as can be.’

Kate was also clearly touched by Bear’s kind words towards herself and her children, as he spoke to her and Adil Ray about the return of his National Geographic series, which returns to UK screens this weekend.

Bear’s TV appearance came after he paid an emotional tribute to his ‘one in a million’ friend after the wilderness guide died in a motorcycle accident.

Joshua Valentine worked with the TV personality on NBC’s ‘Running Wild With Bear Grylls.’

The show stars famed outdoorsman Grylls, 46, roughing it in remote locations with celebrities including Don Cheadle, actor Terry Cruz, and tennis ace Roger Federer.

But the 37-year-old was killed on Friday when he overtook a slowing truck on his Harley-Davidson and collided with a car in Ohio, America.

New Jersey State Police say he was thrown from his bike after he overtook the truck and smashed into a Nissan car turning right into a truck stop.

Joshua’s motorcycle flipped after smashing into the Nissan truck’s door, leaving the driver with minor injuries.

He was pronounced dead shortly before 6pm, according to the New Jersey Herald.

Police investigating the crash confirmed he was wearing a helmet before the fatal collision.

TV star and former SAS tropper Grylls has led the tributes to the self-professed survivalist, saying he is ‘heartbroken’.

He described the death of Mr Valentine, one of his ‘core safety crew’, as a ‘tragic loss’ who died in ‘an accident that has shook us all.’

In his emotional Instagram post, he said: ‘He was one of those genuine one in a million. Strong as a lion, dependable, kind to everyone, humble, super skilled, and loyal to the end.

Grylls added: ‘A true friend to many. He will never be forgotten. And his example of how to live, will be with us for ever. We are all heart broken.’

Friends on social media also remembered him as a kind and brave adventurer, says the New Jersey Herald.

‘A heartbreaking loss of an incredible human being and genuine soul of a man who made this world and everyone around him better,’ a Facebook friend recalled of Mr Valentine, who ran an outdoor sporting company called Embrace the Animal.

‘You have succeeded in inspiring others immensely.’

In addition to his work with British adventurer Grylls, Mr Valentine also worked on films and TV shows for Discovery, Netflix and NBC.

He provided stunt work and survival skills on set to shows including Face the Wild and also helped behind the scenes on shows aired during the Discovery Channel’s popular ‘Shark Week.’

In addition to his passion for the outdoors, Mr Valentine was trained in survival, mountaineering, expedition paddling, crevasse rescuing skills, and avalanche rescues.
