MasterChef and Lego Masters go head to head in the ratings after MAFS

Channel 10’s MasterChef Australia and Nine’s Lego Masters will go head to head in a ratings showdown as both programs launch on the same night after the Married At First Sight finale

Lego Masters and MasterChef Australia will go head to head in the ratings next week when they premiere on the same night: Monday, April 19.

The third season of Lego Masters, hosted by Hamish Blake, will launch the day after the finale of Nine’s ratings juggernaut Married At First Sight on Sunday, April 18.

The family-friendly show, which regularly reached more than a million metro viewers per episode last year, will start at 7.30pm.

In response to Nine’s scheduling, Channel 10 moved its premiere date for MasterChef from Tuesday, April 20, to Monday, April 19, to compete directly with Lego Masters.

The cooking competition, fronted by judges Andy Allen, Jock Zonfrillo and Melissa Leong, will also launch at 7.30pm.

Network 10 bosses are hoping this bold decision will prevent Lego Masters from claiming the sizeable MAFS audience by default.

Channel 10 had announced last week that MasterChef would return on Tuesday, April 20, and even included this date in trailers and promotional material.

But they scrapped this date when Nine confirmed its launch plans for Lego Masters, meaning both premieres will be going toe to toe in a ratings showdown.

As Nine and 10 gear up for their ‘mad Monday’, Channel Seven is focusing on its limited-run revival of Dancing with the Stars: All Stars.

The show has been a modest ratings success, with audiences excited to see former participants (‘all stars’) face off against newcomers (‘wildcards’) on the dance floor.

Sunday’s premiere pulled in an average of 744,000 metro viewers, making it the strongest season launch for DWTS since 2015, Mumbrella reported.

However, the star-studded ballroom competition wasn’t enough to topple MAFS.

While Seven will no doubt be pleased with the ratings, Nine still continued its dominance with MAFS on Sunday.

The reunion dinner party had a metro audience of 1.127 million, making it the most-watched entertainment program of the night.
