Happy news! Sir Sean Connery’s son Jason has married his long-term partner Fiona Ufton in a ceremony near their home in the Scottish Borders

Just five people attended the service in Kelso due to coronavirus restrictions and the couple’s dog Lily acted as bridesmaid.

Fiona, 53, shared photos of the big day on her Instagram and Twitter accounts and told how she ended up wearing her back up wedding dress to the nuptials.

She wrote: ‘Jason had bought me a gorgeous dress, but while it was at the tailor’s being altered I felt the need to have a back up dress. Just in case!

‘The super talented Irish designer Emma Manley gave me this little white dress, a sample that never went into production, about 8 years ago.

‘I tried it on for Jason, and he had the most beautiful, moving, emotional reaction to it. ‘That’s your dress’ he said, and the way he looked at me in that moment was exactly the way I wanted him to look at me on our Wedding Day.

‘There was no going back from that. And yes, he did look at me in that glorious, romantic way on our Wedding Day. Oh, what a perfect day!’

Jason is the son of Sir Sean and the late Australian actress Diane Cilento, who were married until 1973.

He began acting while at Gordonstoun School in Moray and met Fiona, then lead singer of pop band Alter Ego, at one of their gigs in 2016.

They first appeared in public together in June 2016, at the premiere of his film Tommy’s Honour at the Edinburgh Film Festival.

Announcing their engagement last month, Fiona said: ‘Three weeks ago, on the 5th anniversary of our very first date, the love of my life got down on one knee & asked me to marry him. I said yes, a thousand times yes.’
