Monica Bellucci, 56, wears a dramatic grey wig as she shoots new film La Befana Comes At Night 2

Monica Bellucci looked completely unrecognizable on Tuesday as she got to work on her latest film in Italy

One could be forgiven for failing to spot the typically glamorous Italian actress during a break between scenes on the set of forthcoming movie The Befana Comes At Night 2: The Origins.

Dressed in character as powerful Good Witch Dolores, Monica, 56, appeared to be in high spirits while chatting with the crew as they prepared for another take on location in Rome.

There she is: Monica Bellucci looked completely unrecognizable on Tuesday as she got to work on her latest film in Italy

Wearing a crooked witches hat and clutching an obligatory broomstick, the actress was appropriately dressed for her role as the kindly witch, who devotes her life to children.

A flowing grey wig concealed Monica’s traditionally dark hair, while heavy, coarse and rather uncomfortable looking clothing reflected the film’s 18th century setting.

With spring temperatures soaring in the Italian capital the actress soon made a beeline for her personalised chair, where she shielded from soaring spring temperatures while as assistant touched up her make-up.

Early days: Monica began her career as a fashion model in the late 1970s before transitioning to a successful acting career (pictured in May 2019)

Produced by Lucky Red and Rai Cinema in collaboration with Sky, the new film serves as a prequel to the Italian language La Befana vien di notte (The Befana Comes At Night).

The forthcoming move will also star Zoe Massenti, Alessandro Haber, Herbert Ballerina, Corrado Guzzanti and Fabio De Luigi.

Filming commenced in Italy on March 1st, with the movie expected to be released towards the end of 2021.

Leading lady Monica has been in a relationship with Nicolas Lefebvre, 36, since May 2017, four years after her split from ex-husband Vincent Cassel.

The actress first confirmed she was seeing someone in an interview with Paris Match last November, but stayed coy about her partner’s identity.

Admitting they had been dating a while and things were going well, she said of her new man: ‘The man I share my life with doesn’t have the same job as me, but he travels a lot. His rhythm of life complements mine.’

Asked whether she would consider getting married again, the former Bond girl kept her cards close to her chest.

She said: ‘When you’ve been married twice before, you need to take time to think about it before starting over, to understand why it happened and why you divorced. Let’s just say I’m in a learning phase at the moment.’

Monica was married to fashion photographer Claudio Carlos Basso from 1990 until 1994, and then Matrix star Vincent Cassel from 1999 until 2015.
