Disney+ bosses unveils plans for THREE UK shows from the producers of Killing Eve and Gentleman Jack

Disney+ has unveiled their plans to produce three UK original series following the success of their shows including Wandavision and The Mandalorian.

Bosses have enlisted the help of the producers behind Killing Eve, Gentleman Jack and The Night Manager for the scripted shows, though release dates are yet to be confirmed.

The British slate will include a swash-buckling adventure from BAFTA-winning writer Sally Wainwright, a dramatic heist series and a superhero-themed comedy.

Hoping to rival the success of US hits Wandavision and The Mandalorian, Disney+ bosses have unveiled their own original shows that will debut in the platform in the coming months.

The first is The Ballad of Renegade Nell, a period caper which focuses on highway robber Nell Jackson, who discovers her poor luck is for a reason that goes right up to the authority of Queen Anne herself.

Consisting of eight episodes, the series is being penned by Sally, who is best known for her work on the BBC drama Happy Valley, and Gentleman Jack, which is in the midst of filming its second series.

Speaking about the show Sally said: ‘Nell’s a ball of irreverent, blustering energy, fighting against the privileged gatekeepers of English society in 1705, battling to contain mysterious forces within her and her enemies as she goes on the run with her two sisters. 

‘It’s a thrill once again to work with Faith Penhale and the super-talented team at Lookout Point. 

‘I’m so excited to partner with Disney+ for this series, with their supportive approach and magnificent commitment to bringing this three-hundred-year-old story to the biggest possible global audience.’  

The second series, titled Culprits, is set to depict what typically takes place after a heist, as the robbers are gradually targeted by a killer after going their separate ways.

Culprits will be produced by produced by Morenike Williams, who worked on BBC America’s Killing Eve, and executive produced by Stephen Garrett from HBO’s The Undoing and The Night Manager.

The final series, titled Extraordinary, is a Star Original comedy series from rising star Emma Moran, and focuses on a young woman who lives in a world where everybody has a superpower, except herself. 

It will be produced by Lee Morris, who also worked on Killing Eve, and Charles Dawson, and created by rising star Emma Moran.  

In February, Disney+ officially launched its Star platform, which featured more adult-based series and films from the studio and its TV channels, such as Grey’s Anatomy, Family Guy and How I Met Your Mother.

The former England star, 45, will take centre stage in the show which focuses on a group of inner-city youngsters from an east London team striving for sporting success.  

Speaking about the show David said: ‘It is fantastic to be making Save Our Squad with Twenty Twenty and to shine a light on the kind of grassroots football that I experienced growing up and which gave me so much at the start of my life in the game.  

‘I was so fortunate to have a long and successful playing career and now to have the opportunity to give back to these communities as a mentor is incredible. 

‘Developing and nurturing young talent is so important in the game and it is great to be working with Disney Plus on this project.’
