Byron Bay residents launched a petition to cancel Netflix‘s scandalous reality series titled Byron Baes on Monday.

‘No permit = no location filming. No location filming featuring our exploited paradise = no series,’ the petition read.

‘The environment and community of Byron Bay and the larger Northern Rivers region are being used as a filming backdrop for a “docu-soap” titled ‘Byron Baes’.’

The petition continued: ‘We, the community want all relevant statutory authorities to refuse to grant the production filming permits for any and all local and state government land, roads, parks, and waterways proposed for use during filming of the series.’

‘We further request that any filming permits already granted be rescinded in light of the detrimental impact to both our community and the environment.’

A press release for the program describes Byron Baes as a ‘docu-soap series’.

‘This is our love letter to Byron Bay,’ it states.

‘It’s not just Chris [Hemsworth] and Zac [Efron]’s backyard; it’s the playground of more celebrity-adjacent influencers than you can poke a selfie-stick at.’

There will be ‘fights, flings and heartbreak’ on offer, too.
