Coronation Street: Peter Barlow’s wedding to Carla Connor ends in disaster as he COLLAPSES from liver failure after tying the knot

Coronation Street‘s Peter Barlow shocked viewers when he collapsed from liver failure, right after tying the knot with Carla Connor (Alison King).

The groom-to-be, played by Chris Gascoyne, attempted to soldier on during wedding proceedings, despite his worsening health.

But his liver failure, as a result of years of alcohol addiction, resulted in a shocking twist at the end of the big day as he was left fighting for his life on Friday’s cliffhanger episode.

Before Peter arrived at the register office, Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) pleaded with him to prioritise his health and postpone the wedding as he referenced Sinead’s loss which was close to his own wedding.

After stumbling his way to the car before the ceremony had even began, it was clear that he was struggling to remain conscious.

However Peter and Carla decided to push forward with the marriage after he previously discovered he was not eligible for a liver transplant.

‘Look at you, my beautiful, powerful strong woman,’ a weary Peter stammered once proceedings began. ‘What did I do to deserve you?’

When Daniel interjected and encouraged him to go to the hospital, Carla hurried her husband-to-be.

‘I just want to savour this moment. You know Carla, first time I saw you…’ he trailed off as he struggled to remain standing,

His anxious partner sped the proceedings along and said: ‘Okay, the official bit. I’ll go first.’

With some effort, the couple managed to read their vows before they were declared husband and wife.

But as they returned to the cobbles as newlyweds with their friends and family there to congratulate them, things took a dramatic turn for the worse as Peter passed out on the street.

A horrified Carla cried his name as he lay unconscious.
