With sunnier spring weather and eased lockdown restrictions meaning more time is being spent outdoors the humble picnic has been given a glamorous makeover.

Brits have joined users from across the world in taking to Instagram to show off their very lavish outdoor set-ups in the new trend of ‘posh picnics’ which are a far cry from the traditional plastic plates, soggy sandwiches and Scotch eggs.

The trend involves swapping your old picnic rug for a stylish blanket and bringing with you full crockery, cutlery, glasswear, and sometimes even a champagne bucket.

Insta-savvy users have been adding further elegance to their set-ups by including dried flowers, cushions, baskets, candles and fashionable napkin sets.

Popular food includes charcuterie boards, fresh bread, cheese, fruit and olives – followed by macaroons, pastries and in some lavish cases entire cakes.
