Married At First Sight’s Jake Edwards ‘on notice’ as his mental health charity is ‘three months late’ submitting annual reporting statement

Jake Edwards’ charity, Outside the Locker Room, has reportedly been tardy on submitting their 2020 annual reporting statement.

However, the paper notes that this is not unusual for fledgling charities.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Outside the Locker Room for comment.

Married At First Sight star Jake had appeared on 60 minutes in 2017, to discuss how he founded his own mental health charity after attempting suicide years prior.

At 19-years-old, after one poor game, Jake, who was a rising AFL star, abruptly abandoned his promising footy career with Carlton, and spiraled into depression.

During the heartbreaking interview, he said: ‘I just made a decision – this thing you call life, I just suck at it. I’m failing, my family are consistently worried about me, my mates…I can’t be honest with them. I’m done.’

Jake was luckily saved when he received a phone call from his dad after his failed attempt – who, along with his mum, came to pick him up immediately.

He now goes around the country with his charity, to speak to young men in sports clubs and schools who may be feeling a similar way inside.

‘I have the opportunity at a second chance in life, and I don’t take that for granted,’ he said.

About 200 sporting clubs have signed up to the program, with most recently the Brisbane Lions AFL club getting on board.

The program revolves around education sessions on drugs, alcohol, cyber-bullying, domestic violence and suicide prevention.

The initiative last year received a $500,000 donation from philanthropic organisation the Epic Good Foundation.

Jake says the money will be used to roll out the scheme to 20 more schools and clubs across Queensland in the hope kids will get help earlier than he did.

Outside the Locker Room offers trained counsellors available to help youngsters before their problems get out of control.
