Tesco has been crowned king of the bangers after its £5.50 chorizo sausages came out on top in The Good Housekeeping Institute’s 2021 BBQ food blind taste test.
The retailer was also crowned joint winner with Waitrose of the best supermarket beef burger category.
Eversfield Organic Beef Steak Burgers came in first overall when it came to meat patties, while the Waitrose & Partners Vegetarian Aubergine and Feta Burgers, priced at £2.75, achieved the highest overall score for burgers.
Of the BBQ accompaniments, Lidl was victorious in the best cheese category with its own brand 65p mature cheddar slices, while the Mondo Brewing Co’s Little Victories and Brick Brewery’s Peckham Session won best IPAs.

With an impressive score of 87/100, the Eversfield Organic Beef Steak Burgers, which cost £6.76 for a pack of four, were described as rich and succulent.
Runner-up with a score of 83/100 went to Swaledale Steak Burgers, priced at £9 for a pack of four, which had a distinctive savoury smell that reminded some panellists of salty charcuterie with hints of olives.
When it came to the battle of the own-brand supermarket beef burger, both Tesco and Waitrose & Partners emerged victorious scoring a matching 78/100.
Tesco won for its Finest Chuck & Brisket Burger, which cost £3 for two burgers, while the Waitrose & Partners No 1 Dry Aged Hereford Steak Burgers, priced at £4.25 for a packet of two, equally impressed the judges.

The crown for the best vegetarian burger was awarded to to Waitrose for its Vegetarian Aubergine and Feta Burgers (£2.75) while the best vegan sausages went to Moving Mountains Sausage, £4.69
Tesco proved to be the number one destination when it came to sausages, winning best overall sausage for its hearty, smoky Tesco Fire Pit Chorizo Sausages, £4 for a pack of six.
Aldi took the crown for best budget sausages with a score of 81/100 for its Specially Selected Monterey Jack and Jalapeno Hot Dogs (£1.99).
In the battle of the skewers, Swaledale North African Spiced Lamb Kofta Kebabs, £8, were a joint winner alongside Aldi’s Salmon Kebabs, £2.99.
And the crown for the best vegetarian burger was awarded to Waitrose for its Vegetarian Aubergine and Feta Burgers, priced at £2.75 for two.

The best vegan burger and sausages were awarded to Moving Mountains, with its burger achieving a score of 81/100 and sausages racking up a score of 89/100.
The leader of the pack when it came to supermarket vegan sausages was M&S, scoring a solid 85/100 for its Plant Kitchen Chorizo Puppies, which cost £3.50 for a pack of four.
Runner-up to Lidl in the cheese category, with a score of 79/100, was Sainsbury’s, with its Taste the Difference Barbers Cruncher Cheddar Slices £2 for 150g.
The best vegan burger was awarded to Moving Mountains, with its burger achieving a score of 81/100 at a price of £4.92 for 227g (2 pack)
The best vegan cheese slices were Violife Non-Dairy Cheese Alternative Slices at £2.99 while Linda McCartney Vegetarian Lincolnshire Sausages at £2.20 were runner-up for best vegan sausages
