Melissa McCarthy continues to film her Netflix series God’s Favourite Idiot in Lismore

Melissa McCarthy has been in Australia with her family since 2020.

And on Monday, the American actress was busy filming her new Netflix series, God’s Favourite Idiot, in the country town of Lismore, just outside of Byron Bay.

The 50-year-old was seen making her way around the set with her real life husband and on-screen co-star Ben Falcone.

She had yet to be dressed in costume for her scene, wearing a long black robe, a grey tracksuit and a scarf.

Ben appeared to be taking her through what the layout of the scene would be, pointing out important points on the set. 

Melissa then got into wardrobe – a long burgundy checkered coat with a matching pinstripe shirt and high waisted trousers.

A costume supervisor appeared on set to help make final adjustments to the star’s outfit.

Limbering up: Ben was then spotted beside her, cheekily stretching out his leg as the actress kept her focus on the scene ahead

She cinched the waist of Melissa’s trousers to add definition to the look.

A member of the crew was seen speaking to Melissa, who had her script in hand, likely going over her lines for the scene.

The actors appeared to be doing a confrontation scene between Melissa and Ben’s characters and the other actors.

They then took their break as the set was reset for what appeared to be a protest scene.

Protest: The set was then changed into a protest scene with extra's holding up signs, including one that read: 'Clark es el diablo (Spanish: Clark is the devil)' and 'God hates glowers'

Melissa was seen on the set storming through the crowd of extras in the protest scene, carrying a tote bag.

She was then seen with an actor who was only dressed in a pair of tight white, Armani underwear.

Her character appeared to take a photo of him, as members of the crew held up an umbrella for them.

Melissa and Ben were recently granted $10 million from the federal government’s Local Incentive program to film God’s Favorite Idiot in Australia.

‘To have the opportunity to safely film our show in a beautiful country like Australia is a dream come true,’ the couple said in a statement in February.

‘We love this country and the talented people who live and work here.’

Back in December, it was reported that Melissa enjoyed working in Byron so much that she was doing anything she could to shoot her next project in Australia.

‘They [Melissa and other Hollywood stars] just love it in Australia and absolutely want to make the series here,’ a source told The Daily Telegraph at the time.

‘With everything going on in the U.S. right now, the pandemic is out of control, they want to stay here.’

Melissa first arrived in Australia with her family in August 2020 to film the $100million Hulu mini series, Nine Perfect Strangers, in the scenic Byron Bay, New South Wales.

Melissa and Ben also recently filmed their cameo appearances for Thor: Love And Thunder, back in March.

Melissa and Ben married in 2005 and have worked together several times since, including on the 2014 movie Tammy and 2016 film The Boss. 

The couple and their daughters Vivian, 13, and Georgette, 10 – have been living in Australia since July.
