What’s going on here? Britney Spears had many followers baffled on Thursday after she shared a trio of snaps showing her kissing a bronze cowboy statue in California

Britney beamed a smile as she posed up a storm with the cowboy, thought to be the statue of actor Joel McCrea in downtown Camarillo.

For one image, she stood behind the statue holding one arm in the air and wrapped another around its neck.

She then hopped onto the statue’s lap for another fun image making sure to point her toned leg out as she worked all her angles in a red top and shorts.

Sharing the images to Instagram, Britney wrote: ‘So, me and this cowboy go way back … he had a farming job down south and I met him 6 years ago through my cousin. He always told me I was a hard one … but always remember … easy does it !!!

‘He even was wearing the same cowboy hat he wore when I first met him !!!! I was leaving a boutique that day and saw him sitting on the bench … as you can see I was so excited to see him again !!!

‘He laughed … as usual … and I kissed him on the cheek !!!! I asked how long he’d been sitting there and he said he was waiting for his horse … then he gave me his famous wink !!!

‘I told the man upstairs THANK YOU !!! And guess what wise a***s, I still have the SAME CAMERA today !!!’

Thousands of the singer’s fans soon took to the comments saying they were baffled, with many coming up with their own theories about a coded message.

Some seemed to think Britney was addressing a past claim from her conservatorship battle which alleged she wanted an iPhone but her father Jamie didn’t allow it.

TMZ previously reported that Jamie didn’t want her to have the smartphone because of ‘concerns over social media and people with ulterior motives contacting her’.

Responding to her cowboy pictures, one fan penned: ‘She’s saying that she’s got the same phone she’s had since 6 years ago’

While another added: ‘Maybe she’s saying she still has the phone. Not that she can’t get a new one.’

'What does it MEAN?' Thousands of the singer's fans tried to find some hidden meaning in the pictures and debated theories in the comments

Other fans weren’t convinced on when the images were taken, with some suggesting they were fresh and not throwbacks, causing them to worry about the hitmaker’s safety.

‘Hey Brit, love you. Please don’t kiss public objects,’ wrote one loyal admirer.

And someone else commented: ‘Bestie u gonna catch Covid from dat’ (sic)

However others were just completely baffled by the pictures, with one fan writing: ‘I don’t know what the hell she’s saying but I AM LIVING FOR IT’

Britney’s Instagrams have long fuelled speculation she’s using social media to make a plea for help, with some continuing to believe she’s posting coded messages despite her social media manager Cassie Petrey saying they’re ‘are not that deep’.

Britney has previously reassured her supporters about her ‘unique’ situation and insisted she does stand up for what she wants. Her social media manager Cassie Petrey has also waded in on the debate surrounding the singer’s social media posts, sharing a post on her personal account stressing they are ‘really not that deep’.

She wrote: ‘Britney is not ‘asking for help’ or leaving secret messages in her social media… She is literally just living her life and trying to have fun on Instagram. She has a team to help strategize like any major celebrity generally does at this point in her career.’

The American star, has been hitting headlines of late in the wake of the controversial documentary Framing Britney Spears, made by The New York Times.

The show delves into the circumstances that led to the establishment of her conservatorship in 2008 following her highly-publicised breakdown.

A Los Angeles court granted her father Jamie, 68, control over her finances in the legal arrangement, sparking the #FreeBritney movement of fans who want to see her released and able to take charge of her life again.

The latest posts also come after a confessional video post from the singer last Friday, in which she assured her concerned fans that she’s ‘totally fine’ and ‘extremely happy’ amid her ongoing legal battles.

In the Q&A style video, Britney directly addressed frequent comments asking if she is ‘okay,’ reassuring her fanbase that ‘I have a beautiful home, beautiful children.

‘I’m taking a break right now because I’m enjoying myself,’ she continued.

Although the singer noted that she is often asked about her well-being, Friday’s clip marked the first time that she has ever given a definitive answer to the question.
