Dancing With The Stars veteran Brooke Burke, 49, shares photo of her leg in a cast

Brooke Burke shared with her followers this week that she had a major operation on her leg.

The former Dancing With The Stars co-host, 49, shared an image from her hospital bed where she was makeup free with a mask around her chin while dressed in a blue frock with a wristband on.

And then the mother-of-four posted an image after the operation where her leg was in a cast as it was elevated. The health and wellness guru had her ACL, which she tore while skiing, mended.

ACL stands for anterior cruciate ligament, which helps stabilize the knee joint as it connects the thighbone (femur) to the shinbone (tibia).

Basketball and tennis players often suffer a torn ACL because they have to stop suddenly.

‘Surgery day, see you on the other side. ❤️ thank you for all the love and light,’ the girlfriend of Scott Rigsby wrote before the operation.

After her surgery she clarified what was going on as her fans worried she may have had a major health issue as she brought up ‘the other side,’ which could be interpreted as heaven.

‘Thank you so much for all the love and light ✨,’ began the ex of Dave Charvet.

WHAT IS A TORN ACL?

ACL stands for anterior cruciate ligament.

It helps stabilize the knee joint because it connects the thighbone (femur) to the shinbone (tibia).

Basketball and tennis players often suffer a torn ACL because they have to suddenly stop.

Symptoms include knee swelling, instability, and pain.

Treatment may include surgery and physical therapy.

‘I certainly didn’t mean to scare anyone. I was a bit out of it this morning…So, tore my ACL skiing, nothing fabulous‼️ But it required surgery.

‘I’ll be down for the count for a bit but I’m at home recovering & doing great and I will use this challenge as an opportunity to become a better teacher, & to create low impact – different content for the next few months,’ added the star who lives in Malibu. She shares workout routines on her app.

‘I will stay connected to all of you as I transition from being a busy little hummingbird (what my friends call me) to more stillness and a different type of self-care.’

She then said: ‘It’s a great time for all of us to connect and the company will feed my soul. Thank you for everything you do that helps me feel good!✨’

Then the Maxim cover girl shared the image of her leg hoisted up as she wore a white top and gold jewelry. She had her hand on her German Shepard dog who laid next to her as she said, ‘Rehab partner.’

This is a big change for Brooke who is incredibly active as she works out every day.

In February she told DailyMail.com she talked about staying in shape during lockdown from the COVID-19 pandemic by walking.

The Skechers spokesperson shared that even walking 20 minutes a day can help not just with keeping the weight off, but also with mental health. ‘Don’t get in a pandemic rut,’ the siren shared. ‘The more you move, the more you want to move. It’s all about the action, the movement. Even 20 minutes a day helps out.’

Brooke said at the time she does a lot of different things during her workout routine, and a 45 minute walk is included.

‘It is my escapism,’ the fitness expert said.

‘I love to get out and walk and am really blessed with good weather in Southern California. I love to walk in my neighborhood, I get to say hello to my neighbors, it’s a good social plus.

‘I walk with my children and my boyfriend and we love the fresh air, the Vitamin D we get. The movement feels great too.’

And she loves both walking on the beach and in the mountains.

‘Both are just as beautiful. I like to take my dogs to the mountains and they get to run around,’ she added.

She also urged people to get in the mood: ‘Just get up, put your shoes on and get out there. Once you have your shoes on you tend to get in the mindset for a walk.’

There is also a lot one can do when on a walk.

Brooke told DailyMail.com she likes to listen to audio books and music, and she even takes conference calls but ‘sometimes silence is the best to reset.’

And when she is walking with her kids, they have a catch up: ‘It’s nice to talk and walk with my kids with no devices.’

Brooke has four children: Neriah, 20, Sierra, 18, Heaven, 14, and Shaya, 12.

Her shoes of choice are Skechers because they are ‘comfortable, they are super supportive, they have 20 years of data in their insole, and I love the colors, they are fun.’

On her Instagram page she asks: ‘Did you work out today? Do you know why? Figuring out the answer to that can help you along your fitness journey. Conscious awareness is a big part of progress. I’m just asking….here for you & all your wellness goals.’

Brooke also has an app called Brooke Burke Body that shares several workout tips one can do inside their home.

According to a recent survey conducted on Skechers behalf by YouGov on walking trends since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, over four out of five Americans (86 percent) currently go on walks and the most important factors for consumers when taking walks are comfortable shoes and clothing.
