Round The Twist: Inside the lives of original ’90s cast as the show comes to Netflix

The nineties are making a roaring comeback as iconic Australian show Round The Twist arrives on Netflix next month. 

The mind-bending show followed the quirky lives of the Twist family, and their supernatural adventures living inside an old, remote lighthouse. 

Round The Twist had four seasons, the first two airing between 1989 and 1992, and the latter from 2000 to 2001. 

Now, as a new generation of Australian children prepare to be mind boggled by this coming-of-age classic, Daily Mail Australia looks back at where the actors who played the Twist family are now.

Richard Moir: Tony Twist

With his mop of curly hair, Richard Moir was instantly recognisable as the lovable single father Tony Twist.

A widower, Tony eventually found love again with his son Bronson’s teacher Fay James, with the pair later becoming engaged.

Sam Vandenberg: Peter Twist (season one) 

After playing haphazard teenager Peter Twist in the first season, Sam Vandenberg has mostly retreated from life as an actor.

According to his IMDB page, Sam’s only other acting gig is an episode of Australian police drama Blue Heelers in 1995.

Ben Thomas played Peter Twist in the second series of Round The Twist, before starring in several other classic Australian shows.

He had a reoccurring role on Neighbours in 1995 before landing parts in Blue Heelers and The Genie From Down Under.

However the actor, now 44, appears to have retreated from acting with his last on-screen role in 1998.

Tamsin West: Linda Twist (season one)

Besides playing sassy Linda Twist in season one, Tamsin West also sang the Round The Twist theme song for all four seasons, including the 2000s reboot.

Tamsin had also appeared in Neighbours for five years between 1986 and 1991.

According to a fan website, 47-year-old Tamsin now lives in London where she works as a jazz singer.

Now 42, Joelene Crnogorac had several notable roles in Australian productions like The Man From Snowy River, Ocean Girl, Blue Heelers.

During the 2000s, Joelene continued to score parts in TV shows such as Neighbours and City Homicide. 

But she appears to have given up acting in the last eight years to focus on motherhood.

Rodney McLennan: Bronson Twist (season one) 

The original Bronson Twist, who saw a ghost in the outside toilet, is all grown up.

In 2016, Rodney McLennan told the ABC the role had dogged him his entire life and caused him to fall behind in school work.

‘I struggled with it and found it very emotionally challenging. I missed fundamentals of maths so I avoided maths and that just perpetuated into high school,’ he said.

Rodney left acting in his childhood, signing up with the Australian Army as a rifleman to get back on track after falling in with a bad crowd.

He completed a 13-month tour of East Timor in 1997 and today works as a triple-zero call taker and police dispatcher. 

Incredibly private since his time on the spotlight, Rodney has no social media accounts.

Jeffrey Walker, now 38, had arguably the most successful TV career of all the Twist children, also landing a lead role in Ocean Girl.

Since 2003, Jeffrey has worked as a director on Neighbours, H20 Just Add Water and Dance Academy.

Matthew Waters was the final actor to play the role of Bronson Twist, joining the show in its third season. 

After starring on Round The Twist, Matthew went on to appear in Peter Pan (2003), The Pacific (2010), and Blue Water High (2005). 

He also works as a casting director and singer.

Bunney Brooke: Helen ‘Nell’ Rickards 

Playing the spooky neighbour who warned the Twist family their lighthouse was haunted, Bunney Brooke was a well-known Australian actress.

Famous for her role on controversial sitcom Number 96, she won a Best Actress Logie for her work in 1976.

Bunney died aged 80 in 2000 from cancer.

Playing scheming politician Harold Gribble, Frankie J. Holden’s character spent the series trying get his hands on the Twist’s lighthouse.

A prolific actor, the 68-year-old is currently playing Roy Briggs in Australian TV series A Place To Call Home.

He also appeared as Garry Butterworth in the 2008 season of Underbelly.

Richard Young: James Gribble

Playing the son of Harold and Cecilia Gribble, Richard Young’s character James was known for tormenting the Twist children alongside his lackeys Tiger and Rabbit.  

He starred on the show in 1989, and went on to appear on shows including Blue Heelers, Offspring and Tomorrow, When the War Began. 

Richard has also stepped behind the camera, having also worked as a production manager.

Round The Twist will be available to stream on Netflix from May 1. 

Australians will be able to watch the show in its entirety – the first two seasons which ran between 1990 and 1993, and the latter two from 2000 to 2001. 

Round The Twist originally aired on Channel Seven in 1990 before the ABC took over the show in 1993. It also aired in Britain on the BBC, earning a cult following.

There was then a seven-year hiatus before the show returned in 2000.
