Dexter’s Michael C. Hall appears in new teaser trailer for revival series set to air this autumn

Michael C. Hall is seen reprising his role of Dexter in a just-released preview clip for the revival show set to return to Showtime this fall.

In the clip, which is set to the tune of Nina Simone’s version of Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, Hall’s Dexter character is seen resting in a cabin amid a snowy atmosphere.

In the reflection of a window, a body wrapped in a bag is seen writhing around, which Dexter acknowledges with a quick raise of the eyebrows.

Showrunner Clyde Phillips told TVLine last October that there would be no dream sequences incorporated to explain events of the past.

‘We’re not undoing anything,’ Phillips said. ‘We’re not going to betray the audience and say, “Whoops, that was all a dream.” What happened in the first eight years happened in the first eight years.’

Hall, 50, told The Daily Beast earlier this year that the revival should placate some fans that were upset with how the show ended eight years ago.

‘People found the way that show left things pretty unsatisfying, and there’s always been a hope that a story would emerge that would be worth telling,’ he said. ‘I include myself in the group of people that wondered, “What the hell happened to that guy?”‘

He said that his decision to return to the role was the byproduct of a ‘conversation that’s been ongoing’ for years, to bring back the character.

‘I think in this case, the story that’s being told is worth telling in a way that other proposals didn’t,’ he said, ‘and I think enough time has passed where it’s become intriguing in a way that it wasn’t before.’

In announcing the reboot, Showtime co-president of entertainment Gary Levine said that the concept for the revival was brilliant.

‘Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago,’ Levine said. ‘We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series.

‘Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world!’
