Jackie O reveals daughter, 10, openly talks about people who are bi and trans

Radio host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson has revealed her 10-year-old daughter is openly talking about people she knows who are bisexual, queer and transgender.

The mother of one, 46, made the admission during a chat with NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Friday.

She explained her daughter, Kitty, had recently invited a few friends over and she couldn’t believe they were discussing sexuality and gender in such a ‘blasé’ way.

‘I had a couple of girls over the other day – they’re 10 years old,’ she began.

‘They are so blasé and open about everyone being bisexual these days. “Oh, yeah, he’s bi. Everyone’s bisexual these days.” And I’m thinking, “Oh god, they’re 10 years old.”‘

Her co-host Kyle Sandilands blamed ‘lefty’ schools teaching children about sexual preferences too early.

But Jackie disagreed, saying these discussions were actually the result of celebrities and social media personalities ‘coming out as bisexual, queer [and] trans’.

She added: ‘But I don’t know the difference between queer and bi and pansexual.’

Jackie did not suggest there was anything wrong with her daughter having these conversations with her friends about gender and sexuality.

But she was surprised because she hadn’t talked to her friends about these things when she was Kitty’s age growing up in the late ’80s.

Ms Berejiklian said Kitty’s knowledge was probably just a sign children these days are more accepting of LGBT and nonbinary people than previous generations.

‘I think we’re all getting much more respectful of each other. Life is hard; let everybody be themselves,’ she said.
