Michael B. Jordan opens up about Chadwick Boseman losing the Oscar:

One of the biggest surprises during last week’s Oscar telecast was Anthony Hopkins winning Best Actor for The Father, when most believed Chadwick Boseman‘s final performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom was a lock for the win.

Michael B. Jordan, who starred alongside Boseman in the Marvel Studios blockbuster Black Panther, opened up about his co-star losing his only Oscar nomination.

The 34-year-old actor revealed that Boseman losing will not have any impact on his remarkable legacy whatsoever.

Jordan was a guest on Jess Cagle’s Sirius XM radio show, when he was asked if he was ‘shocked’ that Boseman didn’t win the Oscar.

‘Yeah, I think everybody had a little bit of that feeling watching it, but this is how I honestly truly feel about it, like there’s no award that can validate his legacy,’ Jordan said.

‘There’s no win that can take anything away from the lives around the world that he impacted, his family, myself included,’ he continued.

The actor added that we have to, ‘look at the things that we can control and the gifts and the blessings that he left us, and that’s his incredible body of work and what he represents and stood for as a person, and that’s the biggest one we could really ask for.’

Boseman’s Oscar nomination for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom was his first, going up against ultimate winner Hopkins along with Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal), Steven Yeun (Minari) and Gary Oldman (Mank).

Jordan played Erik Killmonger alongside Boseman’s T’Challa in the 2018 blockbuster Black Panther, with Marvel currently developing a sequel.

The studio had previously made it quite clear they have no intentions of re-casting the T’challa role, though the sequel is still happening.

When Cagle asked what Jordan’s chances are, from 1 to 10, with 10 being most likely and 1 being ‘not at all likely,’ to return as Killmonger, he revealed the chances are low.

’10 being most likely and 1 being least likely, right? I’ll go with a solid… two,’ Jordan said, which surprised Cagle and co-host Julia Cunningham.

While Cagle said, ‘that’s not very likely,’ Cunningham added, ‘Wow, there’s a chance,’ with Jordan explaining his answer.

‘I didn’t want to go zero, you know, then it’s like, you know, never say never. You know, I can’t predict the future, so it’s two. I figured Black Panther 2, two sounds, OK I guess,’ he added.

Jordan will next be seen in Without Remorse, where he plays the iconic character created by Tom Clancy named John Kelly, arriving on Amazon Prime April 30.
