Millions of viewers are expected to tune in to the season six finale of Line of Duty on Sunday night after 11 million watched into the penultimate episode last week.

The police drama which has captured the imagination of Britons has made huge stars out of their cast, but what were they like before they spent their days catching bent coppers? 

You’d be forgiven for not recognising bearded Martin Compston, 36,  who plays Steve Arnott, from his 2002 debut as the lead in Ken Loach’s Sweet Sixteen.

Meanwhile, baby-faced Adrian Dunbar is a world away from his famous frown in pictures from her childhood.  

DSI Jo Davidson played by 45-year-old Kelly MacDonald has hardly changed from when she starred as teenager Diane Coulston in 1996’s Trainspotting, others including Vicky McClure  are more tricky to pick from a line up.
