Lindy Klim reveals what life is like in ‘ghost town’ Bali during COVID

As a member of the Balinese royal family, she is literally a princess.

And Lindy Rama-Ellis (née Klim) has lamented the toll that COVID-19 has taken on her homeland, in a candid and emotional Instagram fan Q&A on Sunday. 

‘Kuta and Legian are like a ghost town,’ wrote the 44-year-old model over images of an empty restaurant patio.

However the mum-of-four revealed that ‘a lot [of restaurants and hotels] are still open.’

When another fan asked ‘When do they expect people to start holidaying back in Bali?’ she replied, ‘Soon I hope I miss my mum!’ 

Lindy’s mother lives in Australia, having met Lindy’s father Anak Agung Oka Rama during a holiday to Bali.

The ex-wife of Olympic swimmer Michael Klim is a Balinese princess, whose late father was the prince of Denpasar, Anak Agung Oka Rama.

While she is technically royalty, Lindy confessed she feels like ‘a fraud’ because she grew up in Hobart and wasn’t taught much about her heritage.

By living in Bali now, she feels like she is reconnecting with her roots.

‘My dad was Balinese and unfortunately I didn’t get to know him before he died. I feel a greater connection to him living here. I also want my children and I to connect with the Balinese side of us,’ she explained.  

Lindy is based in Bali with her husband Adam Ellis and her four children, Stella, 15, Rocco, 13, Frankie, nine, and Goldie, three. 

She shares Goldie with Adam and her older children with retired Olympian Michael, to whom she was married from 2006 to 2016. 

Lindy wed Adam in August 2018, a year after they welcomed daughter Goldie.

Lindy shares custody of Stella, Frankie and Rocco with Michael, who still lives in Australia.

The high-profile couple’s marriage ended acrimoniously about five years ago, with Lindy describing the split as ‘painful’ and ‘traumatic’.

The pair have since made made amends for the sake of their children.

She told fans in her Q&A on Sunday: ‘Yes, mostly [on good terms with Michael]. Like any relationship, it’s a work in progress.’
