Kind-hearted Dermot O’Leary helps neighbour in hunt for missing cat 

Dermot O’Leary proved he was one of TV’s nicest celebs as he took to the streets to try and help find his neighbour’s cat for over an hour.  

The radio and TV presenter, 47, who is well-known for his love of cats, donned an all-navy ensemble as he searched front gardens for the pet on Tuesday.

He held on to a pack of Dreamies cat treats as he stepped out in a bid to find the missing moggy alongside a number of other members of the community.

Dermot covered a navy cardigan with a darker blue bomber jacket and sported a white T-shirt as his base layer for the charitable outing 

He kept himself comfortable and added a pair of dark New Balance trainers to his look which he wore with some dark denims. 

The star appeared to make animated facial expressions at the other people helping look, and stuck his thumbs up in one snap which could mean good news.

Neighbours also wrapped up warm against the crisp spring weather as they searched behind bins as they took to the street to find the cat. 

One man, who appeared to be the owner, held an empty cat carrier as he checked for where the animal could have went.

Producers for the popular series spent months researching the TV presenter’s family, who come from County Wexford, Ireland, with the hopes he could take part in an episode but weren’t impressed with what they found. 

Speaking on the Snot, Sweat & Tears motherhood podcast, Dermot said: ‘They actually researched my family for about three months. They came back and said, “There’s just not enough interesting stuff about your family”.  

‘Wexford is a port town, and my family are all seafaring folk. I have it on good authority that two of them went to America.

‘One of them was a police officer and the other was a judge and they both got killed by the Mafia in the 30s. 

‘They couldn’t find any record of this. I was like, ‘What are you on about?’ We’ve been everywhere, we’re a family of sailors.’

‘I just don’t think they were trying hard enough. It’s awful isn’t it? Absolutely awful.’

Dermot, who is married to Dee Koppang O’Leary, told how the coronavirus pandemic taught him to be more appreciative of ‘the smaller stuff’.

He said: ‘It makes you think, ‘Do I need that water that comes from Fiji or can I just filter some tap water?’

‘It’s appreciating the smaller stuff, whether it’s a cup of coffee or a walk in the park. It’s just turning off the phone and making time for yourself.

‘Please God, we don’t go back to working the way we used to. People don’t want to work like that. They weren’t happy, it makes you die young.’
