Venom: Let There Be Carnage releases first trailer

The official trailer for the Marvel Comics-based film Venom: Let There Be Carnage was released on Sony Pictures Entertainment’s official YouTube account on Monday.

The feature, which stars Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson, centers around the titular character as he comes face to face with a new threat with similar powers.

The Andy Serkis-directed superhero film is intended to be the second entry in the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, which serves as a counterpart to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Back at it: The official trailer for the upcoming Marvel Comics-based film Venom: Let There Be Carnage was released on Sony Pictures Entertainment’s official YouTube channel on Monday

The trailer begins with the 43-year-old actor’s character, Eddie Brock, waking up in a disheveled New York City apartment and attempting to make himself breakfast.

However, the Venom symbiote, also voiced by Hardy, takes over the process and messily assembles two unappetizing-looking plates of food that it places in front of its visibly exasperated host.

The scene then changes to a liquor store, where both Brock and the titular character are greeted by the shop’s owner, showing that the investigative journalist has come to terms with his role as a carrier.

He is then shown entering a prison where an overhead shot of Cletus Kasady, played by Woody Harrelson, is shown as the inmate is heard saying, ‘I’ve been thinking about you, Eddie, because you and I are the same.’

After Venom picks up a criminal and prepares to drop him into his fearsome jaws, Detective Mulligan, portrayed by Stephen Graham, frustratingly reads a newspaper story centered around the prisoner’s crimes.

Brock is shown having dinner with his love interest, Anne Weying, before the scene changes to a facility called Ravencroft, where Kasady’s lover Shriek, played by Naomie Harris, wakes up from an induced sleep.

Once Venom climbs to the top of a large building, the journalist finally comes face to face with Kasady, who tells him, ‘Welcome back, Eddie Brock. It’s been a long time. I missed you so much.’

The prisoner is then shown in a lethal injection chamber, and after a technician begins administering a deadly serum, the criminal’s own blood begins to push the solution out of his veins.

He then begins changing into his superpowered form, after which a quick-fire montage of scenes from a prison riot is featured, and Shriek is seen using her own psychokinetic powers.

Just before the title card is shown, Kasady transforms into the monstrous Carnage, who lets out a chilling wail before the screen cuts to black.

The trailer ends with Brock and Venom being told by the liquor store’s owner that they do not have an order for them, and after the symbiote expresses a desire to eat her, the journalist tells it that they will be doing no such thing.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is set to make its debut on September 24, after it was pushed back from an original October 2020 release date.

The forthcoming feature will serve as a sequel to the original 2018 film, which also kicked off the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters.

As opposed to producing stories centered around a wide range of superheroes in the vein of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the media franchise will be focused on characters that are associated with Spider-Man.

Although executives from both studios intensely negotiated over the rights to the web-slinger, they eventually came to an agreement that allowed both to use the property.

The next scheduled film from the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters is set to be centered around Morbius the Living Vampire, who will be portrayed by Jared Leto, and will make its debut in 2022.

Other projects that are currently in development include features centered around characters such as Kraven The Hunter and Madame Web.

Hardy has also confirmed that he will be starring in a third Venom film, although the upcoming feature’s release date is currently not known.
