Dua Lipa’s BRIT Awards routine is almost an EXACT replica of Honey G X Factor performance from 2016

A BRIT Awards viewer has pointed out the similarities between Dua Lipa‘s performance on Tuesday and a rap routine by Honey G on the X Factor in 2016.

And the likeness is uncanny down to the fine details of the broadcasts.

Eagle-eyed Rory O’Connor has posted his mash-up of the two routines to TikTok, with the performances side-by-side.

The likeness is uncanny: Honey G [pictured] performed her version on the X Factor in 2016

The mash-up we never knew we needed: A BRIT Awards viewer has pointed out the similarities between Dua Lipa’s [L] performance on Tuesday’s show and a rap routine by Honey G [R] on the X Factor in 2016. And the likeness is uncanny

And while it’s likely a massive coincidence, one could be forgiven for thinking Dua had taken inspiration from former X Factor contestant Honey G [real name Anna Georgette Gilford].

Both clips start with each lady strutting along a platform on the London Underground before boarding a train with a bevvy of dancers.

They sing to the camera from the carriage, before each clip cuts to the stage – the O2 for Dua, the X Factor studio for Honey G – where each of them are seen getting off a tube train replica and strutting out towards the audience.

Each of them are surrounded by a group of backing performers as they take to the stage.

Which is which? While it's likely a massive coincidence, one could be forgiven for thinking Dua had taken inspiration from former X Factor contestant Honey G

All smiles: The singers even finish the routine with the same cheeky grins

The clip demonstrates the eerily identical routines, with Honey G and Dua’s dance routines almost totally in sync.

While Dua points and waves her arms, so does Honey G.

The ladies even seem to break off from the crowd of dancers at the same time, only for the backing performers to congregate around them for one final moment as their routines come to a close.

Even the camera angles and wide shots from the performances match.

Honey G performed a mash-up of RUN DMC and Jason Nevins track It’s Like That with Will Smith’s Gettin’ Jiggy Wit’ It as part of her X Factor tenure.

The wannabe rap star was mentored by Sharon Osbourne but was voted out of the  2016 competition just shy of semi-finals week.

She attempted to launch a rap career following her time on the show but has since returned to her former career in property.

Just this week she raised awareness for mental health by posting a selfie to Instagram displaying a sleek new hair style.

She penned an accompanying caption reading: ‘I’ve teamed up with The Mental Health Foundation to create awareness around preventing mental health problems by driving change towards a mentally healthy society for all…

With or without the Honey G likenesses, Dua made waves at the 2021 BRIT Awards on Tuesday  as she ran through a medley of some of her biggest hits at the ceremony, held at London’s O2.

The songstress, 25, wore an eye-catching ensemble that included a Union Jack-print wrap skirt which hearkened back to Geri Horner’s headline-making patriotic minidress, which she wore as she performed at the same awards show some 24 years ago, back in 1997.

Viewing figures for the BRIT Awards plummeted for the fourth year in a row, with 2.9 million tuning in – 860,000 less than last year.

The show was finally broadcast following three months of delays, and had an audience share of 18%, down from 20.5% in 2020.

Viewers watching the show at home took to social media to say the BRITs had become ‘more about music than politics’, following Dua’s call for Boris Johnson to give NHS staff a bigger pay rise.

During the ceremony Dua had taken aim at the Prime Minister after the Conservative Party revealed plans for a 1% pay rise for NHS workers who have been working on the frontline throughout the pandemic.

As she accepted her Best Female Solo artist gong, which she dedicated to nurse Dame Elizabeth Anionwu, Dua said: ‘[Dame Elizabeth] has spent her stellar nursing career fighting racial injustice. She has spent so much time and is a strong advocate for protecting frontline workers, thank you.

‘She has also said that there is a massive disparity between love and respect for frontline workers, because we need to clap them but we need to pay them, so I think what we should do is give a massive round of applause and give Boris a message that we all support a pay rise for our frontline.’

The awards ceremony truly belonged to Dua as the evening saw her scoop the accolade for Female Solo Artist and the Mastercard British Album of the Year Award for her lockdown hit Future Nostalgia.
