Anne-Marie has said suffering with anxiety makes it hard for her to perform on stage as she discusses her mental health challenges.

The Rockabye singer, 30, revealed she ‘hates people looking at her’ and so music was a ‘weird career to go into’.

Speaking on Friday’s Good Morning Britain – where she also discussed her new track with Niall Horan – the star said hearing other people talk about their difficulties helped her.

Honest: Anne-Marie has said suffering with anxiety makes it hard for her to perform on stage as she discusses her mental health challenges

She said: ‘Sometimes weird for people to hear I suffer with anxiety because some people say ‘how do you go on stage’ and I say ‘I don’t know’ because I hate people looking at me.’

She added: ‘It’s a bit of a weird career to go into for someone like me.’

Explaining how she copes she said: ‘When you say to people just talk about how you’re feeling, that’s what helped me find out my brain, by hearing other people talk about what they’re going through.

‘I had no idea about my brain really. I can say about three years ago, I still didn’t understand anything about mental health.

‘It was only when I saw people talking about it online and on the TV. I feel so strongly about that and I want to be so open with everyone.

‘I want everyone to know that, it might look like you’re happy and you have everything, but you can still have things going on up here that people can’t see. I want to talk about it all the time.’

Last month The One Direction star hinted at their collaboration with a teaser snap, alongside the caption: ‘It’s happening’.

And the pair were then spotted filming for the music video as they rode around in a mint green classic Jaguar XK120 together.

Anne-Marie also discussed their partnership in November last year, explaining how the pair decided to team up after bonding over their shared love of golf, subsequently penning three songs together.

She said: ‘It was amazing actually. The communication started to happen after I pronounced his second name wrong on the radio, and then we started chatting and I’m into golf and he was like, “We need to go and play golf!”

‘We’d planned to hang out with each other but never did, but then this session opportunity came around and I was like, “Finally, we’re going to be in the same room”.

‘It was a very creative process and we wrote three songs so we’ve got a few to choose from.’
