‘That’s the Botox’: Dolly Parton jokingly reveals the secret behind why she always ‘looks so happy’ during star- studded mental health care summit

Dolly Parton never fails to have a sense of humor about herself.

The 75-year-old legend was a featured special guest at the star-studded #WOW: Whole Health Includes Mental Health event held by UCLA Health on Thursday night.

Parton appeared virtually for the summit and performed an acoustic version of her song Light of a Clear Blue Morning and revealed that ‘the Botox’ is her secret to always looking happy.

Legend! Dolly Parton jokingly revealed that ‘the Botox’ is her secret to always looking happy while appearing at a virtual mental health summit, #WOW: Whole Health Includes Mental Health, on Thursday night

‘I’m often told I look so happy, but to be honest … that’s the Botox,’ Parton laughed. ‘Well not all of it, but some of it anyway!’

She then pivoted to the more serious topic at hand: the negative stigma around mental health issues.

‘But seriously, we all experience moments of anxiety or depression at one time or another,’ Dolly candidly said. ‘I believe it’s how we handle those moments that ultimately defines us.’

Looking classically Dolly, the blonde bombshell had her full hair and makeup done to the nines and she rocked burnished dark gold top with a sheer keyhole detail.

After chatting to the camera about mental health, the Grammy winner pulled out her acoustic guitar and performed her song Light of a Clear Blue Morning.

The virtual #WOW: Whole Health Includes Mental Health event was hosted by Friends star Lisa Kudrow and featured a variety of speakers in the mental health field like doctors and experts, as well as some big name celebrities.

Along with Dolly Parton, the event included participation from soccer player Landon Donovan, filmmaker Ava DuVernay and actress Mindy Kaling.

#WOW aims to ‘impart actionable, evidence-based solutions to improve whole health and well-being for you and your community’ and raise awareness around mental illness stigmas, according to the organization’s website.

It’s no surprise that Dolly jumped at the chance to lend her talent and platform to help raise money for the UCLA Friends of the Semel Institute Research Scholars and UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital Board of Advisors Clinical Innovation Grants.

Her charitable work is, perhaps, just as impressive as her illustrious music career. This year Dolly donated a million dollars to help fund Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine.

Dolly’s literary non-profit, Imagination Library has delivered over 150 million books to children.

‘If you can read, you can self-educate yourself, and you’re just lost if you can’t,’ Parton told GMA this week.

Adding: ‘I just think it’s important for children to learn to read in the early years, to learn to love books and all that, so I’m just so proud to have been a part of anything that’s good and that’s making life a little better for people.’
