Daniel Wright, 29, Liam Hall, 30, and Stacey Salman, 28, all from Keighley, West Yorkshire, were remanded in custody following a hearing.

The suspects appeared in court via video link wearing grey prison-issued clothing.

Samuel Whibley, 28, from Anglesey off Wales, was also a part of the alleged terror gang that attended the hearing.

The first three defendants are all charged with offences of possessing articles connected with acts of terrorism.

Wright is also accused of disseminating three items that would be useful to commit terrorism.

Whibley is charged with eight counts, all involved in the creation and dissemination of material that encourages terrorism.

They did not indicate a plea during the 10-minute hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this morning.

All the defendants will appear at the Old Bailey later this month.

Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram said: ‘I am going to remand you all in custody until your next hearing on May 28 at the Central Criminal Court.’

A 16-year-old male from Swindon, who was arrested as part of the same operation, was released from custody without charge a week ago, a spokesman confirmed.

Detective Chief Superintendent Martin Snowden, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, said: ‘We understand these arrests and police activity have caused considerable concern within our communities, in particular the impact of speculation around them and the ongoing inquiries across social media.

‘Public safety remains our number one priority at all times. An extensive and thorough investigation has led to these four individuals being put before courts.

‘We would like to thank everyone for their patience, understanding and support and continue to ask for the co-operation of the public in not speculating about the case to avoid any negative or prejudicial impact on the forthcoming court proceedings.’
