Noel Fielding’s girlfriend Lliana Bird reveals her Israeli mother has been ‘in bomb shelters’

Lliana Bird has revealed her mother has been ‘in and out of bomb shelters’ during the Gaza attacks.

The Radio X presenter, 36, updated her Instagram followers on her mum as she attempted to shed some light on the events in the Gaza Strip on Thursday.

While Lliana resides in London with her partner Noel Fielding and their two children, her mother and other family members live in Israel.

Beginning a lengthy post, Liana penned: ‘Thank you to everyone who has sent me private messages. My mum is in and out of bomb shelters and tired, but thankfully she’s fine.

‘Many aren’t, and it’s horrifying and heartbreaking in equal measures. My heart goes out to the innocent HUMANS who have lost their loved ones, whether they be Israeli or Palestinian.’

She continued: ‘Many of you will feel compelled to comment or show solidarity with either the Palestinians, with Israelis (or indeed with non-Israeli jews who are often harassed or questioned about Israel, despite it not being their country/ anything to do with them). It’s understandable.

‘The suffering of the Palestinians has been protected and relentless. Israelis have suffered too, to a different degree. They also hold power and with power comes responsibility.’

The presenter went on to urge her followers to ‘educate’ themselves before posting or passing judgement on the conflict, stating it would be impossible to summarise the conflict in an Instagram post.

She explained: ‘It won’t change your perspective, sympathies or heartbreak. But knowledge is power’.

The philanthropist went on to announce ‘F**k’ Netanyahu [Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel] and Hamas [The Palestinian militant group that rules Gaza] as she declared ‘peace to all innocents’.

Lliana, who is the co-founder of humanitarian aid charity Choose Love, previously shared her views on the conflict in an 2014 article for The Huffington Post entitled, Why I’m Pro-Israeli AND Pro-Palestinian.

In it she stated: ‘Israelis and Palestinians both have the right to exist. We must all accept that. The past is gone, the people, the present is now.

‘Israelis (especially those in the Southern communities) have the right to live without fear of constant rocket attacks.

‘The Palestinians have the right to live in security and socio-economic prosperity in their own state without fear of Israeli strikes.’

The current eruption of violence in the area began a month ago in Jerusalem, where heavy-handed Israeli police tactics during Ramadan and the threatened eviction of dozens of Palestinian families by Jewish settlers ignited protests and clashes with police.

A focal point of clashes was Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque, built on a hilltop compound that is revered by Jews and Muslims.

Israel regards Jerusalem in its entirety as its capital, while the Palestinians want east Jerusalem to be the capital of their future state.

The violent clashes between Arabs and Jews in Israel resulted in scenes not witnessed in more than two decades.
