Alexa and Carlos PenaVega have taken infant daughter Rio home after baby in NICU after early arrival

Big Time Rush actor Carlos PenaVega and Spy Kids star Alexa PenaVega have taken their baby daughter Rio home from the hospital, after the baby spent a week in the NICU as a result of her premature arrival.

Carlos, 31, and Alexa, 32, both took to Instagram Sunday with updates about the baby, who they welcomed earlier this month.

Alexa wrote, ‘UPDATE! WE ARE HOME,’ thanking well-wishers for their prayers and medical staff for their care along with a black-and-white shot of her breastfeeding the baby.

‘What an adventure this has been for our family!’ she said. ‘But what an incredible team of people we had surrounding us the entire time. Huge thank you to the doctors and nurses at Kapi’olani medical center. 

‘From the team at labor and delivery to the #NICU team THANK YOU for keeping Rio safe and for helping her hit all her milestones to coming home!’

She said of the premature birth, ‘This wasn’t how I pictured Rio’s entrance into this world… (who knew she would be THIS adventurous!!??) but we were both in great hands and we felt God’s peace the ENTIRE time!’

She said she was ‘just SO happy to be home with our sweet little girl!’

Carlos posted a family selfie in which he was posed with Rio, and their sons Ocean, four, and Kingston, one.

‘AND just like that… we’re a family of 5!!’ he wrote in the caption. ‘Thank you all for your prayers! Everyone is finally back home, safe and healthy :)’

Carlos on Tuesday shared a shot in which he was resting on a couch with the newborn child in his arms.

‘Sooo.. I’ll be doing a whole lotta this over the summer,’ the Columbia, Missouri-born actor wrote, adding the hashtags, #dadlife and #girldad.

Carlos last week took to the social media site with a black and white photo of the newborn’s tiny hand reaching out to her parents’ hands, telling his followers that the child was being cared for in the hospital NICU.

‘SO.. we’ve been MIA these last few days,’ the actor/singer said. ‘Let’s just say we learned once again that God is always in control. You may have a PLAN for your life, but all that really matters is HIS plan. Little Rio could not wait to come out and play with her brothers!’

He wrote: ‘Momma is feeling good and baby girl is kicking some serious booty in the NICU. Praying we can all be home together very soon! What a wave of emotions.’

He went on to praise his wife, calling her ‘a champ’ and adding: ‘I could never do what you do. The best momma to our 2 boys and now little girl. Thank you for being a solid rock for this family.’

Alex and Carlos married in 2014 in Mexico after a five-month engagement. They and welcomed their sons Ocean and Kingston in December 2016 and June 2019, respectively. They are currently raising their family in Hawaii.

In February, the couple revealed they were expecting their first girl, and in March, Alexa shared they had chosen the name Rio for her.

Alexa, 32, found fame as a child star, playing the young version of Helen Hunt’s character in the movie Twister and went on to perform on hit TV shows like ER, The Bernie Mac Show and Ghost Whisperer.

She became internationally famous after Robert Rodriguez cast her as Carmen Cortez in 2001’s Spy Kids and he reprised the role in 2002’s Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams and 2003’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over.

Carlos also found fame at a young age in the Nickelodeon-signed pop group Big Time Rush in 2009, after also having had parts in TV shows such as ER and Judging Amy.
