Tiffany Haddish DENIES claims she is being ‘groomed’ to take over Ellen DeGeneres’ slot

There were claims made last week that Tiffany Haddish is set to take over from Ellen DeGeneres‘ daytime TV slot now that comedienne has quit.

The actress, 41, does seem like a likely candidate as she has filled in for the chat show host a number of times with much success.

But on Wednesday the Night School star said during an interview with The Breakfast Club that no one has made her an offer yet.

Out with Ellen: The actress, 41, does seem like a likely candidate as she has filled in for the chat show host a number of times with PageSix claiming she is a 'favorite' thanks to her 'humor and empathy.'

Not so fast: There were claims made last week that Tiffany Haddish, left, is set to take over from Ellen DeGeneres, right, on daytime TV. The actress, 41, does seem like a likely candidate as she has filled in for the chat show host a number of times

‘I haven’t commented on it because ain’t nobody that give those jobs talk to me about it,’ she said on the show.

‘The reason I’ve even been popping up guest hosting Ellen is because she wanted some days off.’

She added, ‘I’m learning a new skill. That’s it. Y’all just watching me learn in front of everybody.’

And she made it clear that she has not met with any executives to map out a takeover.

‘I don’t know if that’s grooming me to take over because ain’t nobody talk to me about that,’ she added. ‘Ain’t nobody said nothing to me about that.’

Haddish then joked that money could lure her to the set: ‘If I could get what Ellen getting,’ she snapped hinting that Ellen’s pay days are big.

According to Forbes, Ellen made $84million in 2021.

The report from PageSix last week claimed bosses at NBCUniversal were keen to get Tiffany on board after Ellen, 63, announced the upcoming 19th series of her titular program will be her last.

An insider told the site: ‘Tiffany is a favorite, she has humor and empathy in spades. She’s top of the list to get a daytime show – she’s a fresh voice.’

Tiffany stepped in for Ellen in October 2020 and just last month, while she has also hosted Kids Say The Darndest Things.

While Haddish has ruled out replacing Ellen for now, she did land a new hosting gig with TBS which was announced on Wednesday during the 2021 TBS Upfront presentation.

The star will host Friday Night Vibe, a show that spotlights ‘feel-good comedies, action-packed blockbusters and culturally significant storytelling inclusive of diverse voices. ‘

According to a press release, Friday Night Vibes ‘will be ground zero for those who love movies, the culture, music and hanging out at the beauty salon and barbershop.

‘With a mix of comedy, celebrity interviews and musical performances, Haddish, along with a resident DJ, will guide viewers through this celebration of life, cultural diversity, special behind-the-scenes moments and authentic conversation.’

Gone: Ellen's departure did not come as a shock after relentless claims she had not acted professionally in her work environment. 'When you're a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged — and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it's just not a challenge anymore,' DeGeneres told The Hollywood Reporter

The show begins on June 18.

‘Let’s watch movies and have some fun!’ Haddish said in the release.

‘It’s been a goal of mine to bring Tiffany back to TBS since we worked together on ‘The Last O.G.,’ said Brett Weitz, General Manager for TBS, TNT and truTV. ‘She’s an incredible talent and gifted producer, and we feel ‘Friday Night Vibes’ is the perfect environment to blend her unique take on comedy and culture. Tiffany’s voice and vision at the helm of this weekly series gives it power, strength and a significance that we are very proud of.’

Her goodbye: 'This show has been the greatest experience of my life, and I owe it all to you. So, thank you,' said Ellen; seen with Kim Kardashian during the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Ellen’s departure more than 3,000 episodes did not come as a shock after relentless claims she had not acted professionally in her work environment.

But when she signed off, she said it was not due to the accusations but rather because she not longer felt ‘challenged.’

‘When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged — and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,’ DeGeneres told The Hollywood Reporter.

In a pre-recorded video from her show, shared on her Twitter account, she told her virtual audience: ‘I am announcing that next season, season 19, is going to be my last season. So, the past 18 years, you have to know have changed my life. You have all changed my life. I’m forever grateful to all of you for watching, for laughing and dancing, sometimes crying. This show has been the greatest experience of my life, and I owe it all to you. So, thank you.’

Ellen — who is married to Portia de Rossi — pondered the decision ‘for a while’, but also admitted that when she penned a three-season extension two years ago she knew then the 19th series would be her last.
