‘Madame Butterfly’: Cody Simpson poses with Australian swimming legend Susie O’Neill as he chases his own Olympic glory

Cody Simpson is busy chasing his dreams of Olympic glory in Paris, 2024.

And the 24-year-old got some surprising inspiration from Susie O’Neill, one of Australia’s greatest champions in the pool, on Thursday.

Cody’s mother Angie Simpson shared a photo of her hunky son standing next to Susie at a Queensland aquatic centre.

A shirtless Cody was seen smiling as he posed next to Susie with Angie aptly captioning the snap: ‘Madam Butterfly’.

The reference was to Susie’s nickname when she was a competitive swimmer with Cody also favouring the stroke in the pool.

Susie won eight Olympic gold medals during her career.

It comes after Cody revealed he didn’t want to be pigeonholed when it came to being a musician and athlete.

‘I don’t’ want to be pigeonholed,’ he told The Daily Telegraph last week.

He also revealed the importance of ‘compartmentalising’ his life when balancing both his music and athletic careers.

‘It’s important, I guess, in life to compartmentalise and have periods where you can sort of give the effort to different thing and different goals and ambitions that you may have,’ he said.

This comes after his mother Angie admitted to The Courier Mail the the that she was against Cody returning to swimming at first.

‘Look at all you’ve done, all you’ve achieved, you’ve been on Broadway, you’ve done this, you’ve done that,’ she began.

‘You want to swap it for that solitude, for that hard-core work you’ll have to put in, the hours up and down the pool?’

Cody eventually convinced her it was a good idea with him now based in Australia full-time during training.
