Maya Hawke and Sadie Sink star in first teaser for Netflix’s upcoming horror trilogy Fear Street

Maya Hawke and Sadie Sink are starring in Netflix‘s upcoming trilogy of horror films, based on R.L. Stine’s Fear Street book series, which were first released back in 1989.

The streaming giant dropped the first teaser on Wednesday, which showed Stranger Things‘ Maya Hawke getting dragged away by a skeleton-faced perpetrator inside a bookstore after picking up a landline with just heavy breathing on the other end.

Despite desperately screaming for help, her fate looks grim as a group of teenagers connect a number of terrifying events in their haunted town with a sinister history.

At the beginning of the trailer, the actors discuss the ‘curse’ on their neighborhood of Shadyside, due to a witch who is ‘possessing people and turning them into killers to take revenge on the town.’

‘Your best chance is to run from this place,’ one girl suggests, while another reflects on the ‘bad things’ that happen in Shadyside.

While Fear Street: Part One takes place in 1994 starring Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman’s 22-year-old daughter, Sadie Sink is at the helm of Fear Street: Part Two — 1978, set at a summer camp.

Gillian Jacobs, Benjamin Flores Jr., Darrell Britt-Gibson and Jordana Spiro will also appear in the films.

‘We filmed all three Fear Street movies over one crazy, bloody summer,’ the film’s director Leigh Janiak told Variety. ‘It’s a dream that audiences now get to experience the story in the same way — back to back to back, with only a week of waiting in between. I can’t wait to welcome everyone into the world of Fear Street in 1994, 1978 and 1666!’

Stine, best known for writing the children’s horror novels Goosebumps, warned that while ‘the book series is rated PG,’ the films ‘are rated R’ to include ‘a lot more terror.’
