Pierce Brosnan celebrates turning 68 with pal Danny DeVito: ‘A happy birthday it was’

Pierce Brosnan celebrated his 68th birthday with his friend Danny DeVito and family.

The James Bond actor on Wednesday posted a shot to Instagram of himself blowing out the candles on his cake dining a grey turtleneck sweater as DeVito, 76, was seen from behind in the shot.

‘A happy birthday it was, thank you dear friends and family, near and afar,’ the Ireland-born screen star wrote. ‘And yes, thats the back of Mr Danny [DeVito’s] handsome cranium.

The Mamma Mia! star and DeVito both appeared in the 1996 Tim Burton movie Mars Attacks!, which featured an ensemble cast including Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Martin Short, Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael J. Fox.

The Hollywood veteran was greeted with many happy birthday wishes from stars including Goldie Hawn, who wrote, ‘Happy Happy birthday sweetest!!!!!’

On Sunday, Brosnan’s wife Keely Shaye Smith shared a kind message for her spouse on the social media site.

She wrote, ‘Happy Birthday my love @piercebrosnanofficia … May all your dreams come true. May all your generosity come back to you. Thank you for sharing your life with me.’

Following his birthday, Brosnan was seen out with his son, model Dylan, 24, at Malibu Nobu on Monday.

Brosnan told People earlier this year about his passion for painting, which occurred around the time his late wife Cassandra Harris battled cancer. (She died in 1991.)

‘It really came to light out of a very hard time in my life,’ he said. ‘I turned to the world of painting and that gave me a great sense of comfort. Since then it’s matured. I go to the studio each day even if it’s just to clean the brushes or move the paints around.’
