The Veronicas’ Jessica Origliasso says romance with Ruby Rose led to estrangement from sister Lisa

The Veronicas’ Jessica Origliasso reveals she didn’t speak to twin sister Lisa for a YEAR during ‘heartbreaking’ romance with actress Ruby Rose – and the feud almost split up their band

The Veronicas’ Jessica Origliasso reveals that she stopped communicating with her twin sister Lisa during her romance with actress Ruby Rose.

The singers, 32, were unable to talk or perform together for over a year, they revealed in a candid 60 Minutes interview on Sunday.

‘When you have a twin, you’ve got back up for everything. But sometimes to evolve as an individual, and to find the love for myself I needed to find, I needed to just go through experience for myself,’ Jessica said.

When asked how she coped during their year-long estrangement, Lisa called that period ‘heartbreaking’.

‘I don’t know if there’s any words for how hard that was. It’s heartbreaking. She’s my best friend, so not being able to reach out and check in, see how she’s doing, or tell her what’s going on with me [was hard],’ Lisa replied.

The sisters admitted that during that time their pop group, The Veronicas, almost fell apart due to their separation.

‘We weren’t able to create, we weren’t able to perform. I mean, we couldn’t be together. We had to have things on hold,’ Lisa said.

She added that it was music that eventually brought them back together.

‘That’s where the magic of music is truly a spiritual experience. Because that is our language we have together when words are too tough,’ she said.

The sisters met up in a Sydney recording studio, where they healed their relationship while working on two albums – Human and Godzilla, their first studio albums in seven years.

Jess and Ruby briefly dated in 2008 before rekindling their romance on set of The Veronicas’ music video for On Your Side in 2016. They split once again in April 2018.

Discussing that period on the twins’ MTV reality show, The Veronicas: Blood Is For Life, Jess choked back tears as she described how her ‘isolating’ romance almost destroyed her lifelong bond with twin sister Lisa.

‘Lisa and I didn’t talk for a year. I was in a relationship that wasn’t good for me. I became isolated. I had nobody anymore, I only had my relationship,’ she said.

‘I didn’t have my mum or my dad. When it became too much for me… I walked away,’ she added.

‘I realised I’d become the enemy in the situation. And I was ultimately… my presence and my love was making it harder for [Jess].’
