Paddington 2 loses its perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating

Just a month after Citizen Kane was dethroned as the best-reviewed movie of all time, its predecessor Paddington 2 has also been knocked off the top, four years after its theatrical release.

After an 80-year-old review surfaced of Citizen Kane, knocking its Rotten Tomatoes score down to 99%, Paddington 2 was named the best-reviewed film of all time, since it had the most reviews (245) while still maintaining a 100% ‘Fresh’ score.

Over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, a critic named Eddie Harrison published a two-star negative review for Film Authority, dropping Paddington 2’s score to 99%.

While the review was published in print over the weekend, Harrison insisted that he reviewed the film negatively on BBC Radio for its theatrical release.

‘I reviewed Paddington 2 negatively for BBC radio on release in 2017, and on multiple occasions after that, and I stand by every word of my criticism,’ Harrison said.

‘This is not my Paddington Bear, but a sinister, malevolent imposter who should be shot into space, or nuked from space at the first opportunity,’ he continued.

The critic called the beloved title bear, ‘Over-confident, snide and sullen,’ adding, ‘this manky-looking bear bears little relation to the classic character, and viewers should be warned; this ain’t yo mamma’s Paddington bear, and it won’t be yours either.’

‘Maybe if you’ve never seen the tv show and don’t know any better, this’ll work, but long-term Paddington fans will find this too much to bear,’ he concluded in his review.

Despite its strong critical reception, Paddington 2 didn’t make too much noise at the domestic box office, with just $40.8 million from the North American box office.
