Meet Archie Keswick, the most eligible bachelor you’ve never heard of!

Sienna Miller caused a stir this week when she was spotted holding hands with dashing BFF Archie Keswick, nine months after splitting from her fiancé.

The pair have known each other for years but looked particularly cosy as they strode through the streets of New York on Monday.

It is easy to understand what Sienna, 39, might see in Archie, a father-of-two who was once dubbed one of the ’50 most eligible men in the world’ by Tatler magazine.

Tall, dark and handsome, the Old Etonian is the son of Simon Keswick, former director of multi-billion pound Hong Kong conglomerate Jardine Matheson – owner of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.

The family has a private fortune of £6.35bn, according to the Sunday Times Rich List, and own a 18,000-acre estate in Angus.

Good friends, or something more? Sienna Miller caused a stir this week when she was spotted holding hands with dashing BFF Archie Keswick, nine months after splitting from her fiancé

The Keswicks have controlled Jardine Matheson for five generations.

Now the group’s interests range from prime Hong Kong real estate and brands, including the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, to Vietnam’s largest dairy producer.

Archie, who was described as a ‘demon on the tennis court’ who ‘loves house music’ by Tatler, is the son of Simon and Emma Chetwode, daughter of Major George David Chetwode and Lady Willa Elliot-Murray-Kynynmoun.

Like his father, Archie was educated at Eton. He received an undergraduate degree from Edinburgh University.

Despite being from a billionaire family, Archie and his siblings – he has one brother, Ben, who is chairman of Jardine Matheson, and two sisters, Willa and Poppy – were made to understand the value of hard work growing up.

‘He is the most incredible person in the world but he’s just not the kind to give out money at all,’ Willa said of her father in a 2011 interview with the Evening Standard to promote the opening of her Notting Hill shop, The Village Bicycle.

‘Growing up, my siblings and I all had summer jobs and worked in pubs. He brought us up to graft and to get where he is now he grafted too.’

Willa, who rubbed shoulders with Lady Mary Charteris and Pearl Lowe, had an unsuccessful career as a nightclub owner – the eponymous Willa’s – before shifting to retail, although the shop has since closed.

At around the same time Archie, who joined the Jardine Matheson group in 2007, was based in London where he dated TV personality Hannah Sadling.

By 2010 he had met his future wife, model Alice Rugge-Price, who once posed with only a strategically placed pair of oven gloves for the photographer son of MP Nicholas Soames.

The couple became engaged on New Year’s Eve 2010 and tied the knot the following year. They share two daughters.

The early days of their marriage were spent in Hong Kong and Vietnam where Alice, who was educated at Marlborough and Central Saint Martins, designed for Japanese denim label Evisu before starting her own brand, Wondaland.

It is thought Alice and Archie split in 2019 – the year he appeared on Tatler’s ‘most eligible’ list – with Alice revealing in an October 2020 interview that she was living with her two daughters in an apartment in an exclusive part of Hong Kong.

Now working as an interior designer, Alice has moved back to the UK.

She shares photos of her stunning interior design projects on an Instagram account followed by society figures including Savannah Miller, Cressida Bonas and Princess Beatrice’s husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

As for Archie, his social media remains private and it is not known where he spends most of his time. His brother Ben has a similar approach to privacy and has never granted a media interview.

However it appears the businessman might be willing to risk the glare of the media spotlight to be seen out with Sienna, who shares a nine-year-old daughter with actor ex Tom Sturridge.

The pair have been friends since at least the 2000s. Archie’s name came up in the News of the World phone hacking scandal during which he was described as the actress’s ‘close friend’.
