Beach babe Wilfred Johnson isn’t alone in being used for diaper diplomacy by politician parents

As the world’s most powerful leaders prepare for the G7 summit tomorrow, Boris Johnson‘s son Wilfred made a rare appearance with mother Carrie and the First Lady on the shores of Cornwall yesterday.

In her first appearance since wedding the Prime Minister, Carrie Johnson cradled baby Wilfred alongside First Lady Dr Jill Biden at Carbis Bay in Cornwall.

Mrs Johnson, in pictures taken and issued by Number 10, was seen paddling in the Cornish beach’s shallow waters with Dr Biden.

Meanwhile, one-year-old Wilfred, whose face is obscured as his parents do not wish him to become a ‘public figure’, sat on the shoreline.

Mrs Johnson, a mother of one, seemed a natural counterpart to the US First Lady, as the pair were pictured smiling together in good spirits ahead of tomorrow’s crucial G7 summit.

And, although rare, it is not the first time a Prime Minister’s child has made an appearance at an international summit.

Back in 2000, three-month-old Leo Blair was introduced to the world at the UN Summit in New York.

Proud parents Tony and Cherie were pictured beaming as they loaded Leo into the car on the way to the airport.

The couple allowed President Bill Clinton to hold little Leo who was also introduced to French President Jacques Chirac.

At the time, no photos of Leo meeting either president were allowed to be published as the Blairs were extremely protective of their children’s privacy.

However, a photo that captured the moment was later published in Mrs Blair’s autobiography.

A year earlier, Bill Clinton was pictured with daughter Chelsea, who was 19 at the time, while attending the G8 summit in Cologne, Germany.

As Bill and Hilary Clinton were fiercely protective when it came to their daughter and the family moved into the White House when she was 12, Chelsea only ever really stepped into the public eye when she was a teenager.

But Chelsea, now aged 41, was photographed multiple times with her parents throughout the 25th G8 summit in Germany back in 1999.

In 2000, Chelsea again accompanied her father and mother to the G8 summit which was then held in Okinawa, Japan.

Another US president who enjoyed the company of his children at an international summit was Barack Obama.

Malia and Sasha accompanied their parents to the G8 Summit back in 2013 which was held in Northern Ireland.

Ahead of the event, the Obamas enjoyed a stop-off in Dublin and the surrounding area.

First Lady Michelle along with daughters Malia, then aged 14, and 11-year-old Sasha brought the quaint coastal village of Dalkey to a standstill when they visited and had lunch with U2 frontman Bono.
