Gabrielle Union cuts an eye-catching figure while stepping out solo in New York City

Gabrielle Union appeared to be enjoying herself as she stepped out in New York City on Wednesday evening.

The 48-year-old actress was spotted cutting a very fashionable figure as she wore a colorful jacket and a matching pair of pants while making her way along the sidewalks.

Her spotting comes not long after she gave an interview where she discussed her family’s relationship with her stepdaughter Zaya.

Union was seen wearing a multicolored and striped jacket that flared outward, as well as a matching top during her solo outing.

The Bring It On actress paired her outerwear with a matching pair of pants that covered up much of her toned legs, and she also wore a pair of black heeled shoes.

The performer notably carried a light yellow handbag that added an element of brightness to her otherwise eye-catching outfit.

Her gorgeous hair was tied back in a bun while she made her way along the Big Apple’s walkways.

Union was previously married to former professional football player, Chris Howard whom she met in 1999.

The couple initially tied the knot just two years after they originally met before separating in 2005 and divorcing the following year, after which she commented that she did not enter the marriage for the right reason.

Following her split from the athlete, she began a relationship with NBA star Dwyane Wade, with whom she was first connected in 2008. 

Prior to becoming involved with his now-wife, the 39-year-old former basketball player was married to his former girlfriend, Siohvaughn Funches, from 2002 until 2007.

The couple welcomed a son named Zaire, aged 19, and a second child named Zion, who later changed her name to Zaya, aged 12, during the length of their marriage, and the former Miami Heat member retains primary custody of his children.

He later had a son named Xavier Zechariah, aged six, with his former partner Aja Metoyer, and he was also previously awarded primary custody of his nephew Dahveon Morris, aged 18.

Wade and Union expanded their family with the addition of their daughter Kaavia James, whom they welcomed in November of 2018. 

During an interview with People, Union spoke about how proud she felt after Zaya took a one-on-one Zoom call with a former First Lady to discuss issues affecting teenagers.

‘We were all bawling! She was so amazing and dynamic, and to be able to hold your own with Michelle Obama, it was so impactful,’ she remarked.

The performer also discussed how, when her stepdaughter initially came out as a transgender person, she asked her friends for help in understanding Zaya’s situation.

She recalled, ‘I didn’t have many resources, so I just reached out to everyone I knew from social media…Everyone responded with love, resources and information.’

Union also expressed that, although she and her husband were likely going to make mistakes regarding their approach to their child, they were willing to make the necessary changes in their lifestyle in order to make Zaya feel welcomed.

‘We weren’t coming into it like it’s got to be our way… We’re going to mess up. We’re going to say the wrong thing. But we had to learn and be led,’ she said.

The actress concluded by noting that she would strive to lead a family that unconditionally accepted Wade’s oldest daughter for who she was.  

‘I’m never going to expose anyone I love to violence, whether that be verbal, physical, emotional or spiritual…And we function from a place of truth in our household,’ she said.
