Russell Crowe reveals he’s not actually an Australian citizen… despite having lived in Sydney for most of his life

He’s a proud Australian at heart, but Russell Crowe made a bombshell revelation during an interview with The Daily Telegraph on Thursday.

The 57-year-old Oscar-winning actor revealed he’s not actually an Australian citizen, despite having spent most of his life here.

Russell – who was born in New Zealand – immigrated to Australia with the rest of his family when he was just four-years-old.

Although he eventually returned to New Zealand with his family, he said he ‘already considered myself to be an Australian’ by the time he moved back.

‘My family moved back there but when I was a young adult, I moved back to the city of Sydney, which is the city I grew up in,’ he explained.

‘The city I knew how to use all of the public transport and I knew where all the spots for adventure were and that is where I felt at home.’

Russell now lives between Sydney and Nana Glen, a village near Coffs Harbour, where he owns a farm.

Despite calling Australia home, the Unhinged star claimed he still hasn’t ‘got around to putting my form in to apply to be a citizen’.

He blamed the country’s bureaucracy, and explained that because he was away for more than 10 months of the year in the early noughties, it ‘takes me out of an automatic citizenship thing’.

Russell said in order to qualify for Australian citizenship, he has to ‘write a letter saying what I might contribute in the future’.

‘Between my day job and the other jobs that I’ve done, things like South Sydney [Rabbitohs] and stuff like that, I think it is pretty clear where my heart lies,’ he said.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs football club owner added: ‘Maybe just save all the time and send me a letter.’
