Channel Nine drama Doctor Doctor’s final episode ever hits a season high in the ratings

Nine drama Doctor Doctor hit a season high in the ratings on Wednesday night.

The popular TV series’ final episode ever was viewed by 516,000 viewers.

Fans tuned in to see which woman will win surgeon Dr Hugh Knight’s heart.

Doctor Doctor became one of the most popular homegrown hit drama shows to hit Aussie television screens, running five successful seasons.

Channel Nine confirmed earlier this month that the drama series would wrap up at the end of its fifth (and current) season.

It had Rodger playing Dr Knight, a charming heart surgeon who is forced to work in his former home town of Whyhope as a country GP as punishment for his hedonistic lifestyle.

The series carried high ratings and strong audience numbers- averaging between 700-800,000 TV viewers in the first season.

In addition to Rodger, the series also starred Tina Bursill, Nicole da Silva, Ryan Johnson, Chloe Bayliss, Belinda Bromilow and Hayley McElhinney.

On Wednesday, Rodger’s wife Renae Berry gave a touching tribute to the show ahead of its finale.

‘Feeling melancholy as I settle in to watch the finale of Doctor Doctor,’ Renae began as she shared a photo of her husband and their three kids watching a sunset in Mudgee (where the series is filmed).

‘Each job over the years marks another chapter in our lives,’ she continued.

Renae reflected on how since becoming a mother the ‘years’ have been measured by her husband’s shows, adding what a ‘special time’ Doctor Doctor was for the family.

‘Dusty (their son) a baby when you started and some wonderful family holidays visiting you at work,’ she reminisced. She then referred to the scenic picture as their ‘last trip to picturesque Mudgee.’

Renae ended the caption with, ‘Congrats our Doctor and all the incredible team on a truly successful and wonderful 5 seasons!’
