Seven’s matchmaking show Farmer Wants A Wife will make its grand return to screens on Sunday, July 4.

But before the show has even begun airing, drama has arisen off-screen about the show’s youngest contestants, Sam Messina. 

Shock claims have emerged the 25-year-old, who hails from Canowindra, NSW, may have had a ‘secret girlfriend’ throughout the season, ‘isn’t a farmer’ at all and that he’s using his brother’s farm to appear on the show.

After a video of Sam emerged on TikTok, one follower was quick to comment: ‘Yup, when they find out he isn’t a farmer and used his brothers farm to get on the show…’

Another added: ‘This dude isn’t even a farmer OR from Cano.’

‘It’s actually the family farm. He had to borrow stock and machinery from local farmers. It’s not even a farm, it’s only four paddocks. It’s a block,’ a third said in response. 

‘My friend knows this guy and he had a long-term girlfriend whilst filming this,’ a fourth said.

Sam said any woman he sets his sights on will have to meet the approval of his mother, in an interview with the Daily Telegraph.

‘Her opinion means a lot to me because mum knows who I am,’ he said.

The other farmers are Matt Trewin (26, Orbost, Victoria), Andrew Guthrie, 30 (Delegate, NSW), Will Dwyer (39, Longwood, Victoria) and Rob Campbell (40, Snowy Mountains, NSW).

From thousands of single women who saw their profiles online, the five farmers will choose eight ladies to meet, before inviting five of them back to their farm.

With 99 marriages and 225 ‘farmer babies’ worldwide, Farmer Wants A Wife is the world’s most successful dating franchise when it comes to making lasting couples.

The Australian series alone has resulted in nine marriages and 20 children.
