Publicity rounds: Laurence Fishburne confirmed that he is not going to appear in Matrix 4 despite starring in the original trilogy

Wachowski directed the first three Matrix movies around the turn of the millennium with her sister Lilly years before they both underwent gender transition.

Laurence starred as Morpheus who sets the plot of the original movie in motion by offering Keanu Reeves’ character Neo a red pill or a blue pill.

Neo elects to take the red pill which reveals to him that the world he thought he was living in was just an illusion known as the ‘Matrix.’

He then winds up in the movie’s real world – a dystopian landscape in the future where robots have taken over and humans are their slaves.

Passing the buck: ‘I am not in the next Matrix movie and you know, you’d have to ask Lana Wachowski why, ’cause I don’t have an answer for that,’ he said, referring to the director

Keanu Reeves is returning as Neo for Matrix 4 as is Carrie-Anne Moss in her role as the franchise’s leading lady, a hacker called Trinity.

Other returning cast members from the trilogy include Jada Pinkett Smith, Daniel Bernhardt and Lambert Wilson.

The fourth film will also feature new additions to the series including How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris and Broadway heartthrob Jonathan Groff.

A title has not yet been made public – though there are rumors it will be called The Matrix Resurrections – but the movie has a December 22 release date for HBO Max.

The original Matrix movie bowed all the way back in 1999 and both sequels – The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions – came out in 2003.
