Anh Do insists he DOES paint the celebrity portraits on Brush With Fame

Anh Do has confirmed he does paint the stunning celebrity portraits seen on his interview series, Anh’s Brush with Fame. 

Responding to questioning from The Sydney Morning Herald on Friday, the comedian turned award-winning artist confirmed: ‘It’s all my own work’. 

He went on to reveal that he prepares ‘studies’ ahead of the interview, which are created from closely-studied photos of his subjects. 

Those studies may be used for the final work when he’s having an ‘off day’ and doesn’t complete a work he is happy with during the duration of the interview.

The 44-year-old does have ‘help’ however from his teacher, New Zealand-born artist Paul Ryan, who is an accomplished portrait artist and 13-time Archibald finalist.

Paul confirmed to The Sydney Morning Herald that he assists in the early stages of the work being created. 

‘Yes it’s true, but Anh is a bit cagey about revealing how it all comes together, he doesn’t like me talking about it,’ Paul told the paper. 

‘And he turned me down when I asked for a consultant’s credit on the show, even though every other bugger involved gets one,’ he added.   

The publication says Anh has ‘played down’ Paul’s contribution, and says he just seeks ‘advice’ from the fellow artist.   

‘I think he may be taking a bit too much credit,’ Anh said. 

Anh has painted a whole host of celebrities – this season, he completed interviews with model Tara Moss, singer Guy Sebastian, TV vet Doctor Harry Cooper and  singer Marcia Hines, among others. 

As the celebrities sit for an in-depth and emotional chat with the comedian, he creates a portrait of them, which they take home afterwards. 

Anh has admitted the works are not always completed in the time it takes to conduct the interview, and that sometimes they are tweaked afterwards.
