She’s back! Sophie Monk announced this week that she’s releasing a new comeback single after 17 years and promised fans a ‘very different sound’ to her Bardot days

‘I think people love that Bardot sound,’ Sophie said.

‘This is much more jazzy and just a chill vibe, very different.’

In December last year, Sophie teased a brand new solo single on Instagram – one which sounds very different to her days in noughties girl band, Bardot.

Revealing the untitled jazz-infused number, Sophie gushed: ‘Song I recorded. I’d love your honest opinion. I’m ready for criticism eek.’

She added that she’d recorded the soulful song in a bedroom with Gary Pinto, who has worked with artists including Guy Sebastian, Jimmy Barnes and Taylor Dayne.

‘The lyrics mean a lot to me. I only care what you guys think,’ she continued.

In the sultry song, Sophie’s raspy voice is heard singing the cryptic lyrics: ‘I’ve seen some things, that would make a grown man cry. So many things, that I have to leave behind. So complicated, but I prefer the simple life.’

Sophie’s music career began in 1999, when she competed on reality show Popstars.

She went on to form the band Bardot, which was active from 2000 to 2002, before embarking on a solo career with Warner Music. She left her label two years later.

Sophie was recently unmasked as the Dragonfly on The Masked Singer, which her best pal Jackie O judges on.

But her appearance was hit was some criticism, after Sophie’s former bandmate Tiffani Wood, 42, lashed out at her appearance on her Instagram page.

‘I thought Sophie was too busy for a Bardot reunion. I mean… she’s wearing a dragonfly costume, singing on a stage, while I have to try and get six kids to sleep before the show comes on,’ she wrote.

Bardot celebrated their 20th anniversary last year, and the band reunited for a series of media appearances to mark the occasion.

But Sophie was noticeably absent, and Daily Mail Australia understands she is keen to distance herself from the girl band.

When asked about Tiffani’s criticism on The Ben, Rob & Robbo Show, Sophie said: ‘I don’t know what to say, to be honest.

‘I’ve spoken to one of the girls, but the others I haven’t spoken to for 18 years.’
