Universal’s blockbuster Fast & Furious franchise sequel F9 managed to repeat atop the domestic box office while crossing a major milestone worldwide.
The action sequel took in $24 million at the domestic box office and an additional $23.8 million in international markets, according to Deadline.
Director Justin Lin’s sequel became the first Hollywood movie to cross $500 million in the ‘pandemic era’ spanning from March 2020 until now.

F9 dropped a whopping 65.7% in its second weekend, earning a decent $5,710 per-screen average from 4,203 theaters.
Its domestic take now stands at $117.1 million with $500.3 million worldwide, joining China’s Hi, Mom and Detective Chinatown 3 as the only movies to cross the $500 million worldwide threshold in 2020 and 2021.
The film debuted in five new international markets over the weekend, including Spain, where it set pandemic records.

The movie has earned $374.4 million from international markets, with $35 million of its $500 million global take coming in the IMAX format.
Debuting in second place is The Boss Baby: Back in Business, which earned $17.3 million domestic.
The animated sequel picked up a $4,747 per-screen average from 3,644 theaters in its first weekend.

Also debuting is another Universal sequel, The Forever Purge, which arrived in third place with $12.7 million.
The last movie in The Purge franchise earned a middling $4,178 per-screen average from 3,051 theaters.
Rounding out the top 5 is A Quiet Place Part II, which dropped from second place to fourth with $4.2 million and The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard in fifth with $3 million.

Cruella took sixth place with $2.5 million and passed the $200 million worldwide milestone at the global box office.
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway took seventh place with $2.25 million.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It turned in a eighth place finish with $1.29 million with In The Heights in ninth with $1.27 million and newcomer Zola rounding out the top 10 with $1.23 million.
